Title: Ford going lithium iron phosphate

The Mach-E and Lightning will get LFP cells. This is pretty big news!

LFP is much safer than lithium ion (not self oxidizing; not as prone to thermal runaway when damaged), last several times longer, and can be discharged much more deeply without damage. The advertised range numbers can be used without guilt. The big downside is slightly less energy density, but IMO the pros handily outweigh the cons.

IIRC pretty well all Teslas exported from China are LFPs.
