says Grand was a trim back in the 70's, but in '83 it became part of the model name.

My 76 had a "Grand Marquis" on the trunk and the title, AND you can Google Image it.
Also, way to reference the source I already said was wrong :P

1: Audi's Torsen-based AWD system is frankly the best thing on the market, it's simple and it's very effective.

2: The V8 Quattro is a very unique and relatively uncommon car, and the part of me that's into oddball stuff says buy this thing NOW!

3: Chimp has the right idea in terms of checking it.  Lift the vehicle up on jackstands so that all four tires are off the ground.  Start the car and put in drive, then crank the steering wheel over till you can hear the clicking.  Then grab hold of one front wheel (if you can do so safely, usually you can without ripping your arms off...) and whichever side causes the noise to go away when you stop it is the side with the issue.  And yes, it's probably just a worn joint.

4:  Good luck!

I don't think I'll be having all four wheels in the air anytime soon. From test-driving it, I'm 90% sure it was the CV joint that was groaning and clicking, but I'm no so edumacated on the intricacies of the AWD system that I could rule it out completely.

You're a freaking genius and/or I'm retarded. I will do just that!  :ohyeah:
But it will really suck lugging a jack around on the bus (I plan on taking a bus part of the way to pickup the car)

Just buy a bottle jack.  They aren't that expensive, and will easily fit in a backpack or something.

I had one in the back seat of the 'sc0rt with me, but I didn't even think about jacking the AUdi up. It was dark, anyhow. I hate looking at cars in the dark.

I need to find out if the seller has found the record of the previous timing belt change. I have a feeling it's overdue, anyway. That's an instant $700+ I'll be putting into it.

Make the coin a double-sided coin, and make that side the one that decides "Buy it".

In that case, I probably wouldn't go for it.
Again, it's a complex car that's expensive to fix, so...

What are the pro's to buying this car over say, a Q45 or STS or something else that depreciates like a rock but has better parts availability? Must you have AWD?
