My dad has a 2010 E60 535xi with now 155k miles on it. He's had it since it had 5k miles on it in 2010, and refuses to part with it. It's burning oil, the interior is in various states of disrepair. Long story short, my mom calls me telling me to find a replacement for it. He loves that E60 and thinks the E60 5-series is the echelon of the modern vehicle. I want to find him something to probably lease, but he may end up purchasing.

-Similar power.
-$60-70k range
-I think he prefers sedan to SUV
-Comfortable, preferably with smaller rims (not ultra high profile tires). He drives from LI to Brooklyn on the Belt Pkwy every day and the car gets parked on the street. It gets abused.

I had a Macan S, Audi S4/5, MB E450, Audi A6 in mind. Any other ideas?

If he's in love with the car and the body's good, spend a few thousand to bring the mechanicals up to spec.  In the meantime, for the time it's in the shop, he can rent something he likes.

I know that it's a odd suggestion.  It just depends on how attached he is to that car.

Lexus LS starts at $76 thousand.  Genesis G90 starts at $74 thousand.  Genesis G80 much cheaper.

Or maybe Audi A7 because the Audi sportback design looks really good.  Starts at $69 thousand.

If the Mom's complaining about the state of the car, and he's obviously happy with the current power of the 2010 E60 535xi (6 cylinder 300 hp), and he lives where it snows and the current car is AWD, and the budget is around 60-70 thousand... not sure I would get

1) Used car.  I would stick with new.  Your budget is high enough.  Mom and Dad would be happy with new car smell.  Especially Mom.
2) High performance M type of car.  More expensive, more maintenance, unnecessary.

Just my 2 cents.  Or 1 cent.

Another suggestion is to get what Dave has.  Brand spanking new A6 which is well within budget and gorgeous.
