I've seen the new Kia Sedona at least three times the last few days that make me think, "That's a decent minivan".

C&D review says it's 3rd place to Honda and Toyota, but that's pretty respectable. The mpgeez are spot-on and seems the vehicle should be good at what minivans do.

There's no such thing as a "bad car" in today's market. Compared to even 10 years ago, new cars are leaps and bound better.

I can't believe how little steering input there was, especially under early acceleration.

18x10 wheels all around, 2.3L turbo engine, coilovers. Nice.

Now it's a 2 seater without convertible, and you can't put too much weight in the trunk?

The ranger?  It was always a two seater, and the coilovers are probably stiffer than the stock leaf springs.

The biggest difference between the new Sedona and the other vans is that it prioritizes luxury over maximum utility. It's very nice but you won't have as much cargo space as the others because the middle-row seats aren't removable.

Some reviewers have also disliked the ride and handling, though I had no complaints when I drove one.

Minivan? These things are huge. The Kia Rondo is a minivan. The Honda Fit is a minivan. I want my gee dee Honda S1000. Honda has got to get back into the compact sport car market. Or is it sport compact car? No, that's an old magazine. That Honda killed.

Maybe they should ask Detroit Edison to sponsor their EV tests....

The minivan from the late 1980s was revolutionary because it seated more (comfortably) than a station wagon but still fit into a garage. "Full-size" vans at the time did not fit into a standard garage.

Yes they have grown since then. The original Kia Sedona is noticeably tinier than the standard Odyssey/Sienna/Caravans of it's day.

Full-size vans have also grown since 1984. *All* classes have grown since 1984.

They're still smaller than a fulls size cargo van (E150 or similar).  I think they're even smaller than an 80s era cargo van.

This is such an over-used saying and it always bugs me.  Bad is a relative term, just like how a car maybe "better" than the cars that were out ten years ago, it can also very easily be "worse" than what's out.  Bad is defined by the competition that you can buy, not an imaginary car that hasn't been in production in a decade +.

and with that, my rant is done!

A gentleman at my work owns an early first generation Plymouth Voyager. We've both come to the conclusion that- at least compared to full sized wagons, that (along with the cake) is a lie.

Until you add car seats into the equation; which started becoming mandatory around he same time.

I still think the minivan took over because it was (believe it or not) cooler than the station wagon. Sure, there were other factors (mileage), but by and large the minivan was new and exciting and the wagon was the embarassing dad car.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Nope, you can cram way more into a minivan than a wagon.

Not more people comfortably; at least not in the early minivans.

Old-school, full-sized wagons were HUGE and the first gen Chrysler minivans (pre "grand" models) weren't that big.  Total interior volume was probably pretty close.

Could be, but crawling into the back of a wagon is not as easy as a tall space.

Well it's a fact that Nascar loves yellow flags. It bunches the cars together and can lead to big wrecks immediately after the restart, which viewers find entertaining. But I'm sure it'll extend the race time, which is a negative for viewers. More commercials is also a negative. Seems like a big risk.
