20K miles in a bit more than a year. That's a lot of driving. How has the Odyssey behaved so far?

Mechanic indie BMW specialist is coming in Friday to my office to remove the DSC pump from the M5. Then I'll ship it to the UK and have it rebuilt. Downtime will be 3 weeks or so. Car can't be driven without the pump. It will stay parked on office lot corner spot till then.

Quite well, thanks!!

The transmission has some kind of issue, it "shudders" sometimes at low speed/low RPMs. Solution seems to be replace the torque converter and/or transmission, but it hasn't gotten worse so we just deal with it.  First (only) owner said it's always had synthentic oil- it seemed to be burning a half quart every month or so. I used "synthetic blend" a while back then put synthetic back in. I'm not sure if it's that or the cold weather but it hasn't burnt any since December. Not leaking, not a single drop on the garage floor.

It was a decent purchase. :ohyeah:

Well, the current car plan is:

1. Buy an Evo X or G3 Subaru STI. Once I'm working again, I can't just stop because of snow, so a winter car is first priority. Outside chance I'll get a GTI or Golf R, but both have flaws I'm looking to avoid (FWD and no sunroof, respectively).

2. Replace Z4 3.0i with Z4M Roadster. Perhaps in a louder color, like blue.

3. Maybe go halfsies on an SUV with my brother (this could happen at any time).

Personally, I don't see the point in a fixed roof car with RWD, because if it's clear enough a day to drive RWD with no problems, it's probably also a top down day. Rare that it's too, too cold, depending on the streets I'm driving (more common that it's too cold for the top down on the highway, but it has to be mid or low 20s for me to put the top up on surface streets, and while it happens, it's not an everyday winter occurrence; I've driven top down at least once every month since I bough the car). If a car's roof doesn't fold away, it's likely to be a winter car for me, so AWD is preferred, FWD is acceptable. And before the snow tire argument comes up, I don't have space to store them.

12,000 RPM

There is an SS in my neighborhood and every time I see it I think it's a new Malibu. Chevy really needs to fix that next go round

Huh... I thought the XT5 was built on the Alpha platform. Apparently it's built on the latest Epsilon platform, so traverse engine etc etc. Basically a fancy Acadia/SWB next gen Traverse/Enclave. Smart move by GM but another ding against the Alpha platform

Also, in 1999, were there many cars better looking than the C5 Corvette? Roof off on the targa, that shit was beautiful. Crappy interior, but it was quick, sharp, and gorgeous to look at.

AutobahnSHO

Saw a 1990 SHO for sale in Syracuse for $2500 on craigslist, he's offering it at $2200 to SHOforum members.

Good thing it doesn't have a sunroof, or I'd be really tempted to try to convince the wife to consider it.......

Lots or shops or tire places will store winter tires for you, plus if it's a winter only car you could just keep them on.

I've done RWD in the winter, bad winters on all seasons, so it's not like I think it's impossible. FWD isn't even that much better, you can just be less careful with the throttle. But I have been seduced by the effortlessness of AWD in snow. My brother's S4, on all seasons, cuts through snow like it wasn't even there.

I could go for a lease on a Discovery Sport instead of getting an Evo/STI and kill two birds, but I don't know if I'd be happy with that. In that case, it really would never be a true replacement for daily driving the Z4. It would pretty much only be a snow/heavy rain car, I wouldn't just use it for an exceptionally cold day. Lease would make sense since I'd never drive it more than 10K a year under those circumstances and wouldn't want to keep it after the warranty.

SUVs have never been my favorite, but I can't deny their usefulness. Like when I'm doing things like driving a hundred miles to transport two chairs over two trips in my convertible.....
