If I lived way above sea level a turbo would be a must.

The depreciation is a big deal though. If not for that I feel like the 991.2 could possibly replace the E46 AND 1M.

Have you replaced wifey's Cooper yet? You should be shopping for Macans and X5s

You're right that a 991 could replace both by any objective measure, but I really love the 1M.

Wife is due for a new car as soon as the Cooper's warranty expires in about 10 months. Probably an X1.

Placed a refundable deposit on this today: http://auto.autoplaza.com.mx/MLM-561413184-porsche-911-2p-carrera-2s-_JM

It would replace the E46. I drove it last Saturday. It's mint. Has only 3K miles on it. A bit expensive, but sold by a Porsche dealer.

Manual 997.2 S cars are very rare here, the vast majority are PDK. Car has very little extra equipment: sunroof, ventilated & heated seats, BOSE sound, Sport Chrono. (No sports exhaust - but it sounds good anyway)

Would you get this or wait a year and *maybe* get a new 991.2 Base Carrera (the new turbo) for about 65% more money? Wait and get a used (2012 or 2013) 991.1 Carrera S maybe a bit later (A 991.1S is about 30% more money)?

No warranty. I've researched the 997.2 and it seems to be reliable. Too low mileage maybe?

It would be driven on track (of course) and the occasional weekend. I'd get a set of Pilot Sport Cup 2s and call it a day.

I have 5 days to make up my mind.

Drive this and wait until a 991.2 Carrera is in the budget.  Cash in on some Porsche purist still wanting to pay too much for your hydraulic steering car and enjoy that turbo power.

Knowing when and under what situations to use it and the limitations of it are another thing entirely.

All of which is stated by the car when the OWNER enables autopilot, which is turned off/locked when one purchases their car.

EDIT:  @MCM3 watch for the new episode of MT Ignition in a couple weeks.  It's a review of the base 991.2 with manual trans and they loved it.  Matt Farrah also loved his 991.2 C4 S test car saying he would basically not be able to buy a 991.1 now if street driving is part of the occasion.

You think anybody actually reads those warnings?  Lazy guy wants autopilot, he hits the button, warning pops up, he immediately looks for the "accept" or "acknowledge" button without reading warning, pops Harry Potter in the DVD player, slams into tractor trailer.

Doesn't mean the name "Autopilot" is incorrect or false advertisement, especially considering the warnings do claim it's still in beta testing.

I'm pretty sure aircraft autopilot doesn't include obstacle evasion or collision avoidance.  Granted, there's a lot less to hit in the sky relative to the volume of traversable space.

Couldn't sleep last night. Strong case of cognitive dissonance about the P-Car purchase.

Decided to call it off. Maybe in the future. I decided to be financially more conservative for the time being with baby, house, etc. Will work hard and aim for a 991.2 by my birthday next year.

If it didn't feel right, you were probably better off not doing it.  You don't want to be in a position where in six months, you had to sell because of something unforeseen.  I mean, I know 6 months is generally the maximum H goes without buying or selling a car, but don't worry about it.

Exactly. A 911 is basically an exotic down here. It sends the wrong message at this time. We are on the way to some success but not there yet. I figured I was counting my chickens before they roosted.

Better to wait until I can make a purchase like this 100% guilt-free.

Pilots also have many many hours of training and testing before they can fly a plane unsupervised. Not so with drivers.

They have had auto collision avoidance (with other aircraft) for around 10 years now.

As for Tesla, this is what Tesla still writes about the autopilot on their website. "Dramatically improve the convenience and enjoyment of road trips and your commute by automatically piloting Model S at highway speeds and stop and go traffic."

At best this is false advertisement.

My friend just had an issue with the ignition coil and ignition lead on his Polo GTI (recent model, maybe 2-3 years old). They covered the coil, but he had to pay for the lead (£70 for the lead, the coil would have been £310). This was an issue on my 1.8T Passat. This issue still hasn't been fixed?

Yes. It was first introduced with the A380 but is now available on other aircraft.

"The Airbus solution is to integrate the TCAS resolution advisory with the flight director and the autopilot, so if the autopilot is engaged it will fly the resolution advisory, and if it is not the pilots have only to follow the flight director - with which they are totally familiar - to carry out a successful manoeuvre."
