That's a relief. Hopefully it will be easy peasy and this pump is the actual problem.

I am more precisely trying replacing the pump motor first. That is simple and does not need a tranny drop. If the whole pump is gone then I am fucked because it costs $4,000 and I have to wait a month for the part to get here. Fingers crossed. I may know more later today.

Car is now at the Indy. He just sent me a screenshot of the codes he read:

A couple of new ones:

E714
C9AA

* These seem to be battery related *

Indy says he left the battery on a slow charger all night and that it isn't holding a charge. So, we'll order a new battery and try that first.

If it turns out it was the battery only I'll be thrilled.

I already ordered the new SMG pump motor anyway and it's on the way.

You might luck out, but keep the pump motor because it seems you'll need it sooner or later.

OMFG

On another note - I got an email 5 mins ago from the P-Car dealer offering a new Cayman GT4 that has become available - at MSRP. I am short on cash but will do whatever it takes. At list price this thing is a no-fucking-brainer.

I am trying to talk my business partner into buying it immediately. Maybe partner with him for it.

Ok, a bit of reality setting in after the near orgasm I had when I got the email. This is similar to the 911 situation of a couple of weeks ago. The difference being that this thing is actually worth MORE in the used market.

Can't do this alone. My partner will call me later today and we'll see.

Seems like more than a fair trade, though I'm feeling like a legit SUV in the fleet will be absolutely critical.

GT4 beats 997.2S easily IMO

GT4 is collectible, 911 isn't. It'd have to be a GT3 to compete on desirability.

Boxsters have been the poor man's 911 for so long you've simply forgotten. All Porsches for the last 30 years have been the "something" 911. The exotic 911: the boulevard 911. Whatever.

Well, my initial teenage girl excitement at being "picked" to get a GT4 is subsiding a bit. My economic rationale for not getting the 911 a few weeks ago still applies. Only difference is this thing is actually worth slightly more on the used market than the price I am being offered.

Current thinking is: If my partner wants 50%, I think it's a great deal and I'd sell the E46. This is basically a track and occasional Sunday car so sharing ownership is a no-brainer.

If I have to go for it myself, no - I just shouldn't spend that at this time as much as I want this.

The Boxster being a "poor man's 911" was always a bad argument. Less so for the Cayman.

Not an argument; just the overall perception in the market.

It's not even a bad thing really. Not like that sport utility 911.

Is sharing a vehicle something that would actually be enjoyable?  Where would it be stored?  I feel like I'd always feel guilty driving it knowing the other owner might wish they were doing the same thing.  What about maintenance?  Granted, a brand new car basically requires none outside of (probably) dealership-provided oil changes and the like, but.

This guy is basically my brother. Car would be stored at the excellent garage here at the office. He is a member of the same track club that I am. Less of an enthusiast however.

Like you said, maintenance being new is not a big issue. I figure I'd basically enjoy it as if it were mine for half the price.
