That doesn't sound like something that's sold in America.

It's coming.

QuoteThe Golf Alltrack shares its underpinnings with its Golf family siblings, from its MQB architecture to the turbocharged and direct-injection powertrain. The fun-to-drive EA888 1.8-liter, four-cylinder TSI® gasoline unit puts out 170 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque. At launch it will be mated to a six-speed dual-clutch DSG® automatic transmission: a six-speed manual transmission will be available at a later date.

Interesting. Needs more power and I'm not sold on the looks. What I want is a V6 AWD 2017 Tiguan with a 6MT.

Great idea

Maintenance items like brakes and tires will be killer though.  Pretty sure those are 21" wheels.

Damn, 21"!? I didn't know they made those outside of rap videos.

Nice to know that hope is alive. They're a lot newer (and probably more powerful) than the last manual X5s.

300hp IIRC for 2011 and newer models, and about the VW dealership thing... I don't know if any price difference is worth having the same people that service Jettas working on your car vs people who service Porsches.

Who are you, and what have you done with Raza?

But yeah, honestly after living with the 4Runner for awhile, I don't think I'll go back to a sedan for daily driving for a long time.

My new commute would be much better with a more nimble car that the Xterra.

Cayennes are actually more reliable than Touaregs from what I hear. From what I hear Touaregs will make your old E320 seem like a 1995 Toyota Camry reliability wise. Sprint, don't run.

Towards or away?

As for the Golf thing, it'll take a little while to get used to the goofy raised hatch look. The 2017 Tiguan looks awesome. I'd even be happy with a 2.0T Tig with 6MT and AWD.

Talked to my old VW dealer.  They're under new management now (bought by a dealer network that I've had horrible experiences with, so that's not good news), but they confirmed that there isn't going to be a new Tiguan until mid to late 2017 as a 2018 model.  So that's probably going to be off the list if we decide to move sooner (one of the things my brother is thinking about is keeping the S4 for now, until the new one comes out, and buying an SUV in the meantime, and then transferring the ownership of the SUV to me when I'm out of school).  Tiguan would have been a nice bump over the regular mainstreamers.  But the current model is on its way out and stagnant for 2017, no reason to buy that.

Are the Outback and the Forester worth looking into?  What's the difference between the two, anyway?  Is the Outback on the Legacy platform?

EDIT:  Outback comes with a CVT?  Nevermind.

STI Limited gets me nowhere on the practicality issue.  If I were looking for a sedan though and could get past the looks, it would be a good choice though.

I no longer understand Mercedes's naming scheme.  GLA, GLC, GLE, GLE Coupe, GLS, G.  Where's the ML?  And is the GLK dead now?  Is it that the GL means "SUV" and the third letter denotes on what sedan platform it's based?

EDIT:  GLE looks kind of like the ML.  But starts at $52,000?  That's right there with an SQ5 and more than a 3.0 Q5.  I know what I'd pick.

Soup DeVille

GL used to mean Gelande, which is "open country" more or less.

Maybe it's now the truckier models are GL and the more carlike ones are ML?
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

MrH

All SUVs start with GL now.  And then the third letter is the size basically.

GLC is an SUV in the same size category as a C-class, so it's the new GLK.
GLE is an SUV in the same size category as an E-class, so it's the new ML.
GLS is an SUV in the same size category as an S-class, so it's the new GL.

It's stupid, but I guess it makes more sense than the old naming system.  If they want to make it one of those coupe abomination versions, they just add the word "coupe" at the end.  And yes, I'm pretty sure they're making SUV "coupes" of all of those eventually.

Yes, you got the naming scheme right. Makes more sense IMO.

Wait for the GLC400 or 450 or whatever the fuck the V6 version is gonna be. Though the GLC300 is more than enough for daily driver duty IMO. I want one for wifey bad
