Sounds like the higher trims get better materials.  You can even get a suede headliner.
The dash seemed to have a lot of hard plastic.  We looked at it after having a test drive in a XJL  Portfolio, so maybe it suffered from the comparison.

I'd say that's a possibility 😂

Yeah, I did an internship at the Toyota engine plant in Huntsville, AL back when I was still an ME major. It was a pretty well run plant.

Go deal with the dysfunction of FCA or Tesla or GM or even Nissan for a few years, and Toyota makes you feel like maybe you're aren't taking crazy pills. I'd never want to work for Toyota, but they're really good at what they do.

They're advertising lease deals on RR Sports. Need to look at those too then.

Comparing FCA and GM to Toyota is like comparing being shot to eating flavorless ice cream.

Toyota is beautiful in a sense that they are the kings of lean manufacturing and quality.  They represent how every company should act to design and produce a reliable car to the masses.  There is a method to their overly cautious madness.  And in the end, it makes for something that doesn't depreciate and you can drive without worrying about for years.
100% agreed.

Yeah. I'd take my chances with Russian roulette.

The latest EVO has a comparo of the Giulia vs the Germans and a Lexus. They loved the Alfa.

Finally got the brakes done. New pads, rotors, and calipers. Had to get new solid line between the end of the flex tube and the caliper.  Rounded the nut at the caliper on the passenger side, so just replaced the solid line on both sides. Two 6" lengths with male ends was like $7.  Drivers side was totally fine on all fronts, plenty of pad life, but oh well...might as well do em both. Got my $106 worth of core deposits back and im happy.  They know me by name at the O'Reilly now.  I've been there...3? 4? times in the last few days?

Turns out BMW Mexico is lending us at the club an X4 M40i for a week. I'll have it for a couple of days starting this Thursday.

I'll post a report here so you all can hate on it.

If I have time tomorrow, I might swing by the Jag dealer and test drive an F-Pace. I'll be in the area of a dealer that had a private track (I've driven it before, it'll be interesting to try an SUV on the same track where I drove the hell out a 500 Abarth).

New A4 FWD gets 24/37/31 MPG city/highway/combined

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2016/08/no-diesel-required-2017-audi-a4-2-0t-ultra-37-mpg-highway/

To put that into context that is about what a Mazda3 2.5 does with less weight and what, 70,80 less HP and easily 100lb-ft less of torque

More crucially though that is only ~5-7 MPG less than the Jetta TDI which made half the power and did not comply with any emissions standards. I betchu with a mild hybrid setup they could push this over with more powah. ICE ain't dead yet!

Doubt it will get that type of mileage in the real world though.

I have to be honest I haven't even looked at fuel economy much in my shopping. But you got me curious and the 328i is rated at 22/34/26...so not bad but not at the new Audi level.

That being said when equipped with AWD the A4 drops to 24/31/27, the 328xi appears to stay at 22/34/26, so pretty close. BMW does have an extra gear (8-speed ZF versus 7 speed DSG) so maybe that is accounting for the better highway mileage...but you'd think 7 gears would be enough to have a tall OD gear.

Just realized this version comes with much less power than the normal one. So all that shit I was saying goes out the window.

I still think hybrids are the smarter way forward though.

Maybe he meant 328d. That's way more economical.
