They're pretty rock solid.  The big dollar items on those is if you have an IMS bearing failure, but by the 997.2 that was all fixed.  Maintenance stuff isn't too bad for them if you do them yourself.  You shouldn't need to drop the engine or anything like that for a long time if you buy a clean one with a nice maintenance record and relatively low miles.

I'm thinking more along the lines of electronics... gremlins, LCD screen replacement, sensor replacement, electric motor replacements (did that engine come with an electric oil and water pump?)

Meh, cars run better when they're driven. There's a ton of them out there too. Drive it as much as you want, when it comes time to sell, you won't lose your ass.
True, could be fun I guess. I still have a hangup about owning sports cars and not tracking them. I don't have the stones or $$$ to track this. Still would be fun to have for like 1 year though just to say I did it and the TCO would probably be really low

Depends on the sports car. If you can't go more than like 5/10ths without taking asinine teenage risks it's not worth it. These things are definitely in that realm of speed

But you still can't track them seriously without modding them

Mods wouldn't have to be extensive.... brakes and tires would probably be enough

But then the question becomes... do I have $20-30K to spend on a track toy? Hell no. Bike is better in that regard. I think I'm gonna get a suit next year and just get to it

Equus Ultimate is available for mid $20s now. Also, you can get really low mile 2013 civics for $10k? That seems really cheap

Not at all. IMO some of GM's best designs came out around this period. We are talking real turds too. I really like the early 90s Cavalier sedan, and all the W bodies from that time had some kind of charm about them. Can't go wrong with tons of glass and a low shoulder line.

Contrarian? I think GM had a lot of styling plusses going for them in the early 1990's.

I don't think the W-body Grand Prix was one of them, though. The Cutlass Supreme was a lot better styled.

I really like the way these 1990's Sevilles look

SJ_GTI

I actually thought the late 90's Pontiac W-body (Grand Prix) was sort of the pinnacle of that chassis. The one above isn't too bad, but the ones after this model looked ridiculous IMHO.

The one thing that bothers me about these cars is that the hood is noticeably lower than the trunk lid.  Kind of disrupts the consistency.  It's subtle and a silly thing to bitch about, but it makes me itch a bit.

I think it's the straight lines that make it look weird to you.  Pretty much all cars are like that.  This is what it looks like when the hood and trunk are at the same level:

True true.  The very straightness of the lines is probably what makes me notice it so much on that car.

I think I might get one of those stick-on heating pads for my oil pan.  A 25 or 50W pad goes for ~$20.  Pretty cheap.  Could get a battery warmer, too, but I don't think that's really necessary.  I've yet to be stranded in my life by a dead-cold battery, and batteries are cheap.  Engines, however, are not cheap.

Also, the inspiration for this thought...

Use synthetic oil in winter. Of course an oil heater is a fine idea, too.

Too late.  Changed my oil like 250 miles ago with good ol' dinosaur juice.  I'm usually a synthetic guy, but I was feeling cheap...my bad.  I've no issue running conventional as long as I keep up on changing it.  Next change will probably be synthetic or a blend.  Gotta keep the VVTiLQJV stuff happy.

I need to switch to 0w-30, at least during the winter.

What do you do with the cord on the oil pan heater while driving?

You route/attach it to stuff in the engine bay so that the plug sticks out of the grille.  Zip ties.
