Chevrolet Orlando

So far, China only, and I can't see it being sold in the US due to it's awkward sizing.

Basically, it's a small MPV that's been butched up into a Crossover Dodge Journey sized thing. It's 5+2, and longer than the Equinox, but lower to the ground and FWD only. Power comes from a new 1.3LTurbo (160HP) and goes to a 6MT or ubiquitous 6AT.

The Orlando has been sold up here for a few years now.

Potential Soul alternative?

These 150-180hp turbo I4s are getting smaller and smaller.  I bet this engine would be a hoot in something like the Spark.

I think they stopped selling it a couple years ago

I'm not sure.

And yes, the Orlando is a lot more substantial than the Soul. I see it as an Edge competitor.

I thought the Blazer was supposed to be the Edge competitor?

Blazer = Edge

Orlando = S-Max

They were very much cross-shopped up here.

https://www.suvdrive.com/comparison/chevrolet-orlando-20-vcdi-163-ltz-2016-vs-ford-edge-sport-2017

By who? They do not seem like comparable vehicles.

Edge is...

4 inches taller.
5 inches longer.
3.5 inches wider.
4 inch longer wheelbase.

It's just a bigger vehicle. They do not seem that comparable. The Edge is closer in size to a Jeep Grand Cherokee. There is no way you can compare the Orlando to such a vehicle.

The Orlando is closer in size to a Jeep Cherokee, Subaru Forester, and Honda CR-V (though shorter).

What are you comparing... new ones? The '14 Orlando was 17mm, or about 0.7 inch, shorter than the '14 Edge. The Orlando was never a great seller like the Edge, but people absolutely DID cross shop them.

Ah, my bad. Anyways the Orlando hasn't been sold here for a few years now, so it's all moot.

Chevrolet needs better names for their new cars.  "Orlando" sucks as a car name.  What is it supposed to convey?  Crowded, noisy, overpriced, lacking any natural beauty, fake —> great name for a new Chevy model.

I'm going again to Orlando for Thanksgiving to see Harry Potter world at Universal Studios. I had a great time last time I was there.  But it's not something that's a good SUV name which is supposed to convey something cooler than a minivan.

veeman

Oh but wait this SUV isn't bing sold in the U.S. so now I get it.  For the Chinese in China, Orlando is probably something cool.

It conjures up images of sunshine, palm trees, and plastic faced 80 yr old crooners.

I'm thinking Tony Orlando and Dawn, actually.

Me too.  They could name their next offering Tony.

Orlando (name): A famous land or famous throughout the land

This is what Orlando means. So, if you think about it, it is not a bad name. The problem is that Orlando, the city, just ruins our perception of it.

Orlando is the Latinized version of the name Roland, one of Charlemagne's most famous Chevaliers.

And that's another reason it's a bad car name.  It's a person's first name.  Naming a car Orlando is the same as naming a car Robert.

At least if the thing is Asia-only, that won't really matter since it's not a name you're gonna find in Asia.

I give the Opels a pass because those are names of people associated with the history of the company (Adam being the founder and Karl his son).  I give a similar pass to the Ferrari Enzo.  Pretty sure no one named "Orlando" was a major player in the founding of Chevrolet.

Except the sold the previous model outside of Asia.  From what I can tell, the first generation was sold in practically every market except the US.

So Louis or Gaston would be OK?
