Never was a fan of the W201, but in EVO form they look badass.

There Are Just 502 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II's Like This On Earth

A rare 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II, one of just 502 examples ever manufactured, is attracting a lot of interest in an online auction that will soon come to an end.

Mercedes-Benz built the 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II in order to meet DTM homologation requirements. 500 of those produced were finished in a shade known of Blue-Black Metallic and this example is one of them. It is located in Limmen, the Netherlands and is being sold with a stamped service booklet, factory literature, and Swiss registration paperwork.

The bodywork of the Evolution II really catches the eye and includes flared wheel arches, bespoke front and rear bumpers, and a towering rear wing. The car is also sitting on a set of 17-inch six-spoke wheels with Yokohama Advan tires and also benefited from adjustable self-leveling suspension as well as a wider track and larger brakes than standard 2.5-16 models. The Bring A Trailer listing notes that the suspension was overhauled in June 2018.

Inside, the Evolution II is clad in Anthracite leather with matching carpets and a Zebrawood gearshift surround. In addition, the car featured heated power-adjustable Recaro front seats, an electric sunroof, air conditioning, and rear speakers. A badge near the shift knob reveals that this is the 211th example built.

Powering the car is a 2.5-liter Cosworth inline-four cylinder engine that produces 232 hp and is mated to a Getrag dogleg five-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential. It has 95,000 km (~59,000 miles) on the clock.

At the time of publishing, with two hours left for bidding to end, the EVO 2 had attracted a high bid of $164,500. It should be interesting to see how much it will fetch.

I think this was one of the license cars in GT3. I was like "pfft, no way this car could be so fast." Looked up the specs and yep, it's that fast.

Fugly.

I've never seen a riced german car which looks good.  Well maybe the Jetta in Fast and Furious was pretty cool looking but other than that...

Not a fan of the Merc either, but there have been some drool-worthy BMWs...

That's where I was first introduced to it as well. Such a good racecar.

That's not "riced".  It's how they came from the factory.  Homologation special built so they could race them in various, production-based touring car series.  It's basically a street-legal race car.

Yes.

Same basic engine as in the horribly anemic 120 HP Cosworth Vega.

Still a major upgrade from the 2.3 GM version that was, basically, a grenade in slow motion.

The EVO I and II 190s look good because the standard car was so bland IMO. Most of the 190s I saw at the time looked like this...

The upscale versions, which look better, were rare.

Heck, I like how the regular 190 looks. I'll take any 190.

More like the 1969-1970 Dodge Charger Daytona and Plymouth Superbird.

They need those "Gullideckel" wheels and no plastic hubcaps, then I find them visually tolerable.
