The BMW 850CSi-Based Alpina B12 5.7 Coupe Was The Ferrari 812 Of Its Time

Any fan of the E31 BMW 8-Series surely has a special place in their heart for the Alpina B12 5.7 Coupe, a very exclusive car since only 57 units were produced.

Based on the (back then) newly-introduced 850CSi, it was powered by the BMW's S70B56 V12 engine, with its capacity stretched out to 5.7 liters. It also had a modified air intake, crankshaft and camshafts, while the exhaust system was designed by Alpina.

This particular example pretty much screams "sporty" with its red paint and white Alpina decals. The B12 5.7 Coupe also had a carbon fiber hood with vents and a central NACA duct.



One of the images below also shows the interior, albeit partially, but it's enough for us to see that this is one of the 25 units equipped with the 6-speed manual gearbox made by Getrag. The rest had Shift-Tronic transmissions, and you could easily tell them apart as they also had "Shift-Tronic" badging at the rear.

We can also make out the wood trim and wooden gear knob, as well as the anthracite leather upholstery and blue and green contrast stitching.

What about that V12, then? It produced 410 HP (416 PS) and 420 lb-ft (570 Nm) of torque, which by 1992 standards was an impressive number for a grand tourer – sort of like the Ferrari 812 Berlinetta of its time, if we might say so.

As for what it can do in a straight line, well, it sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h).

It's also one of the few equipped with a manual transmission. Go for it!
