Title: Pre-expiry warranty inspection
Post by: Klackamas on May 28, 2019, 07:53:15 PM
Have a 2016 Audi A6, Auto/V6 3.0T premium plus quattro, whose warranty will be expiring in December due to age, not miles. Car has had no problems so far and we are the original owners. Has about 38,000 miles and new tires because of wear and tear,  but nothing else. Got the dealer maintenance plan to 50K, so regular maintenance and oil changes have been done per VW's  (  ) recommendations/schedule by the Audi dealer. Warranty is 4 years/50K miles and we bought it the last week of 2015. It's always been garaged. Mix of highway and city miles.  I tend to keep cars 10-12 years.

Would you get it inspected from stem to stern before the warranty expires? If so, by a garage, chain or someone who specializes?  Or, is such an inspection a waste of money?

I wouldn't get an inspection. I would get a tune and crank up the boost.

I would say just keep taking it in to the same dealership for regular services via the manual recommendations or of course if something goes wrong. That way they know your vehicle and you have a continous record of everything they've advised/fixed.

It's a VW product.  I wouldn't keep it a day past the warranty.

Either the dealership or a good independent Euro shop. The dealer should be plenty willing to find warranty work since they'll get paid for it, right?

IIRC, warranty work doesn't pay well.  Not nearly as well as off-warranty.

This is true. Also, it is frowned upon to "sell" warranty work. It's fairly rare to have much of anything found on a car with under 50K other than oil seepage that some brainless lube monkey thinks of as an oil leak.
Most actual problems make themselves evident to a reasonably aware driver.
