Hm, it's more of a proof-of-concept, but Sony did contact Magna-Streyr and Bosch to screw this prototype together. Not much is known about the battery itself, but it does have two 260HP motors powering the thing.

That's clean. I like it.
More of a one off to showcase products then a serious bid for production... But I do like it
Looks very Model 3-esque but with more character lines. I don't mind it
It's like a Taycan and Model 3 had a kid and this came out. It has a 90s Japanese car feel to it.. I like it.

It actually kind of is built for that. It's a testbed for cameras and infotainment. The range and HP are secondary.
Think of how much more range these might have if the didn't waste so much electricity powering all those screens.
Why does this need 2 motors and 520 hp? With a family car, wouldn't it be better with a single 260 hp motor, a longer range, and a lower price? Soccer moms don't need to hit 0-60 in 3 seconds.

That's a weird question to ask for a car that was never made for production. It's a test bed for Sony's tech and for Magna's EV drivetrains... So why not make it exciting?

It's not weird at all. Those building electric cars seem to prioritize dick size. Instead of trying to one-up each other on 0-60 times, they should be concentrating on range, quality and value. Yes, it's just a concept, but impress me with a new electric car that can keep a charge for a week and/or 500 mile range for equivalent ICE prices. This Sony looks nice, but we don't need another $60-100k electric car that can snap your neck during acceleration.

Range, except for mass from the motors themselves, is largely independent of power in EVs.
That is, a 600 HP EV traveling down the highway at 60 MPH is not using appreciably more power than a 300 HP or a 40 HP motor would be in the same vehicle.

It looks like a baby Taycan, quite nice actually. Clean and flowing exterior, nice interior.
And yeah, the whole 0-60 in as little time as possible hysteria is missing the point. If I were to buy an EV I'd be interested in two things:
1) RANGE
and
2) QUICK CHARGING (without reducing battery life)
Get those two issues fixed and people are going to become more willing to accept them. Right now buying an EV is a "step backwards" in terms of range and refueling, and people are not seeing the point of buying a car that can't go very far and requires hours to fully "fuel-up".

For long trips, yeah. But for commuting every day it's great since you just plug it in overnight and it's at full charge when you leave in the morning. So you never have to worry about fueling up.

+1, not having to deal with the weekly inconvenience of having to fuel up is a great benefit.

For pure city driving, sure, I wouldn't mind an EV. No argument from me that it's useful for the city with zero local emissions and no worrying about the engine oil reaching its operating temperature during a short trip.
But for my line of work an EV in its current state is impractical. Many of my shoots take place outdoors and I need constant access to my car in order to remove or add equipment. This means I can't park my theoretical EV at a charging station and have it recharge while I work.
