Title: rear plate
Post by: AutobahnSHO on October 28, 2015, 06:23:49 AM
Some dummy said as I entered gate at a national guard training center yesterday that the frame around my rear plate is illegal "but we won't ticket you".  It doesn't cover ANYTHING.

This morning I noticed the LED rear lights on a newer SUV really illuminate the ground. But they had a plate frame so it blocked much of the light going onto the plate- at 60ft I couldn't read it.

I think if they ticketed all the people with clear plate covers though they could stop busting people for speeding.

Ehh, some of the on-base MPs sometimes have a real hard-on for rules they don't even understand.

In some states, anything covering any part of the plate, even just the outer border, is illegal.  So yes, even a frame that does not obscure the numbers is in violation.

It is illegal in all states that I know of, as it should be.

I don't believe it's illegal in NY.  NY just requires the plate be readable and not obscured, so a frame around the outside is OK.

Because they allow plate frames that don't obscure anything?

Has anyone replaced their incandescent plate light bulbs with LEDs? Wondering how well they work.

They're nice. And you get color choice, too, which is nice. Cool whites look good on white cars, for instance.

I should also go with black LEDz on Element, even though the law calls for "white". Fuckin racists.
