New Skoda Octavia RS Locked And Ready For Police Work

Skoda's all-new Octavia RS, or vRS as it's called in Great Britain, is now available to UK police fleets.

Power comes from a 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder good for 242 HP (245 PS), with everything going to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. As a result, the new Octavia RS needs 6.7 seconds to go from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h).

The police conversion adds powerful LED signal lights built into the front screen, grille, tailgate and number plate, as well as a three-tone siren.

Officers will also benefit from heated front seats and a new multifunction three spoke leather sports steering wheel with DSG paddles and chrome knurled wheels. Skoda's team of specialists can also further modify the car to meet the exact requirements of individual police services and units.

Examples include the integration of ANPR cameras used to combat anti-social driving and identify uninsured drivers within the vehicle and the addition of air-conditioned dog kennels for specialist dog handling teams.

As the flagship variant of the Octavia range, the RS also comes with a wide range of tech and connectivity systems, such as a 10-inch central display, Virtual Cockpit instrument panel, full LED Matrix headlights with adaptive front light system (AFS), wireless smartphone integration, Adaptive Cruise Control, and front and rear parking sensors with Maneuver Assist.

While the version currently available to the authorities is the 2.0 TSI 242 HP DSG spec, this is just the first model in a range of Octavia RS variants set to debut in the coming months. We also expect a manual version of the 2.0 TSI, a 2.0 TDI diesel DSG with 197 HP and the option of four wheel drive, as well as the brand's first electrified RS model, the Octavia RS iV DSG.

Just the car that DCI John Luther needs to replace that old Volvo that he careens around the streets of London in.

Is that show worth watching? When it comes to European TV shows I am so turned off by their generally cheap production values and mostly terrible "actors".

It's well acted and shot, but it's got serious murder fetishism going on. I made it through the first season and dumped it.

It's impossible to argue with Raza. He wins. Period. End of discussion.

Kind of gritty, but I liked it.
