There's something funny in your Ritalin. That back end is terrible.
I could go on all day about the BMW 1 Series and Lexus styling cues, but I think it can stand on its own as a pretty decent looker for an economy car.

I couldn't find any credible information either way. A lot of speculation. If Hyundai dropped the 2.4 in this, it would probably be one, if not the best selling hatch on the market.
160hp for the 2.4l, right? If they offered that engine and kept the price reasonable I would seriously look at this car in another year or two. I really like the styling, looks very European.
I actually like it better than the sedan, and I generally prefer sedans.
I was rather fond of the looks of the last generation Elantra hatch (the Elantra GT). It was more of a fastback liftback than a wagonoid hatch. Had a nice shape, IMO.
The sedan doesn't look quite right to me. The porportions are off or something. But this just nails it. Does it look Opelish to anyone else?
I dunno why but the front reminds me of a Yaris.

32/35 mpg city/hwy, I'd imagine with the 2.4 the Elantra Hatch would get something like 23/30-31

Sonata GLS with a 2.4 Auto is 3266 lbs.
I'd imagine that if the engine were put in the Elantra, that it would be under 3000 lbs which would help with city mileage. I'd expect to see 25-26/33-34 in an Elantra hatchback.
But this is all speculation. I just through that out there for giggles. It would probably get the same engine from the Sedan. Why? Because Hyundai is no fun. If they were smart, they'd offer BOTH engines in the Elantra (sedan and hatch). Economy for the tree huggers and some fun for the not-so-tree-hugger on a budget.

In the latest Auto-Motor-und-Sport it ranked 3rd behind the Opel Astra and the Euro Ford Focus. But the Mazda 3, which is not a bad car, ranked on 4 costing 2 grand more....

It looks nice! I would definitely test drive a Hyundai for my next car as well. A friend has an '02 Elantra with 90K miles, and it's had a couple of minor problems, but it's held up really well, and is a pretty nice driving car.
