Update - 07/21/2005
Seen here driving on the German N?rburgring is the first prototype of BMW's much anticipated M3. These photos confirm our original report (see story below) of a 4 door M3 being brought back into the model range since the E36 platform. We also reported the M3 would receive a V8 engine. If you look closely at the hood you'll notice the entire center has been sectioned out and replaced with a specially fabricated cover. It cannot be determined from these photos if the cover is steel or another material, however, it is clear that the purpose of this modification is to compensate for a larger engine. Other indicators of this prototype's intentions can be seen in the massive cross-drilled front and rear brake rotors as well as dual split exhaust pipes carefully hidden under the rear bumper fascia. Unfortunately this prototype is not having a full dress rehearsal since M3 styled front and rear fascias are absent as standard 3 Series bumpers take their place.
Original Story from 02/28/2005
In 2006 BMW will kick it up a notch in the sports coupe market with the much anticipated next generation E90 M3. Both Coupe and Cabriolet models are planned with a new addition of a 4 door sedan not seen since the E36 platform.
The initial idea considered was a 4 door M3 saloon and a 2 door M4 coupe. But recently BMW has changed their minds and keep the legendary M3 coupe alive. Internal pressure from the BMW board was too great to kill it off. Therefore, the M3 coupe, M3 saloon and an M3 cabriolet in addition to an M4 2 door coupe/cabriolet will be developed. Did you get all that?
(Edit: The M4 will be a coupe/cabriolet = 2 door coupe with folding hardtop)
The M3 coupe will feature a 6 Series like glasshouse with the possibility of a new distinct interior. The front will sport a new aggressive yet subtle bumper while the rear will display quad exhausts like the new M5. Power will come from a new lightweight V8 producing around 400hp and uses the latest dual-VANOS variable valve timing system. New engine building technology and lightweight materials mean the engine should amazingly weigh the same as the outgoing 3.2 liter in-line 6 cylinder from the current E46 M3 but with considerably more power.
During early testing of the cabriolet version of the 3 series BMW experimented with both a normal canvas roof and a hard folding top but decided on the canvas due to weight savings and maintenance.
The new M3 is slated to arrive in early 2006 with a 2005 Frankfurt debut and the cabriolet will have a Geneva 2006 debut with sales beginning in summer 2006. The SMG transmission will come standard and a CSL version of the coupe with excess of 420hp is being planned as well.
The M4 will also feature theV8 engine mentioned above in the M3 and should go on sale later. No further details are known. A concept for the regular 4 Series is slated for Frankfurt in September.

That is by no means a finished mule from the looks of it...the front should be enhanced a lot more.

Well yeah I know, but how exciting is a 4-door M3? Not very, IMO...sort of takes away the image of the M badge...4 doors? That's like GM putting 4 doors on the Charger...doesn't really make sense.

So it is very fast regardless of the amount of doors. But a 4-door M3 won't be nearly as exciting as its 2-door counterpart, which is why I think they should just keep the M3 as a two-door. But of course I know nothing about BMW, so don't mind my ranting! ;)

Okay, if I have this right the M4 will be smaller than M3 with a fold hard top, right? Glad to see that the M3 sedan will be back, about time someone gives Audi a run for its money!
I spied one myself today, convertible as well.

That guy nailed it to the T, he said to get back with him within 2 hours. I was like he's full of crap, it'll be there a few days. Then I go back to the site and it has sold next to it. Pissed, that was the best deal anyhere on that number of miles and super clean.

This is more my size but they will be a problem when the new one hits. This one is fine though and it's only got 26k miles on it, not bad for an 03 model.

Dave here is a link to their inventory, take a look at the cars. They have the best pics of what they have for sale out of any other site I've searched. Tons of pics all over the cars.

Check out the Audi RS6 as well, that is a great car and has tons of room for the kids.
I suggested that last night but he said it was too small, which doesn't make since if he is considering a M3, maybe he just doesn't like it.
And, Bryan, as far as the M5 goes, don't worry about depreciation, resale values will stay solid because there are a lot of people that don't like the look of the new 5-series.
They do have this A8 L Quattro, don't know the price though.

I guess Select Luxury deals in end of lease cars or something?
If you do get the A8, lower it about an inch so it looks more professional...it looks a little too high for my tastes in stock form. B)

The salesman I spoke with today said they buy 120 cars a month and sale 120 cars a month. He said if you see something you like to jump on it because odds are it isn't going to be around long. He said they ship worldwide and he had just put a Ferrari Challenge like the yellow one on the floor on a boat to Iceland. Who in the hell is going to be driving a Ferrari in Iceland? Does anyone here have any experience with the A8? It looks clean and nice but I'm not sold on it yet, I'm off to autotrader to price them a bit.

I was thinking the same thing. As far as the A8 goes, it handles almost as well as the BMW, but its ride is a bit more rough (should be fine considering what you're driving now). Like the 745i, the A8 had a few teething problems, but 2004 models should be fine. I personally find the A8 to be quite attractive and you should be able to get a better deal on one than you can get on a 745i.
TBR he said they buy cars that the dealer doesn't want on their lot, like almost new ones that will pull new sales away. He said his manager has some kind of device he goes over all panels with that detect paint depth and they will not touch anything that shows any signs of an accident, scratches or dings. They sold that Azure today as well, damn somebodys making some money there.

I believe they all do, I think it is standard equipment.
The A8 is not as capable as the 745i. The A8 is actually the car most like the W140 on the market today.

I don't like the rear of the 04 after looking at it, I like the rear of the 05 but it's too much. Still perplexed, any ideas chime in and maybe I can be more confused. I still think I would really enjoy the 745i but after missing that deal today I may hold off for a bit. :(

Sounds to me like your options are a S500 (which is being replaced soon) or a midsize sports sedan such as a M5 or RS6.
You'd be better off buying a W220 or 221 than waiting for the new model. I do like the S class...ours has been perfect.
Ever consider an XJ, R-33? Not sure how quickly they depreciate, but since you're looking at new A8s, I assume that's a viable option.

One thing Raza, I don't buy brand new cars anymore. The depreciation is such a waste after you pass the 40k mark. The only reason I bought my Ram 3500 new was for the over 6000 lb tax credit. That's the main reason I like the 745 as much as I do, it's not dated looking yet for 04 models and even 03. This gives you huge savings and a vehicle with anywhere from 12-30k miles.

The XJ is too "old manish" for him, but it does have worse depreciation than pretty much everything else in this class.

TBR is right, it's the old timers ride. Plus you have to buy one 5 years old to get a decent deal.
Where did you come up with that? They depreciate like crazy!

That looks sweet. How can these cars be so cheap?

If you drive it and like it, it is a good car, but some people have complained about the quality of the pre-'03 models. However, it looks gorgeous in those pics.
The only thing I can't stand about this car, look at the headlamps on it.
Then look at the xenon clear and how much better the nose looks.

I agree. Simple enough to have fixed/fix yourself though.

Your right and it looks like it was well taken care of, I wonder if the 03 headlamps will fit in it? I know my xenons on my 230 are 750 each to replace so these must be over 1000 each.
Seems like they did a surprisingly extensive redesign of the nose for '03 (surprisingly because it doesn't look that different), so they may not.

Well I would think they would have offered them in 02, let's take a gander and see.
I don't believe the S-class was available with clear lense headlights until 2003 when they became standard.
QuoteI don't believe the S-class was available with clear lense headlights until 2003 when they became standard.
Every 2002 has those shitty ones and it says that they are zenon but hazed lensed. I just found on autotrader a 2002 S55AMG with 15,789 miles for 57,800. Somebody didn't drive that at all hardly, that's a scary car to buy because it's been sitting around too much. That's only around 4k miles a year, spooky.
If you get the Audi, you must get it in natural brown leather with dark brown wood. Every interior with natural brown seems to be amazing B)

The Audi is out, the rear of the 04s just doesn't do it for me. The 05 has a nice tail feather but it's out of the price range.

I'm seriously considering it but I really like the newer 745. I'm going to let is saute a bit.

They are bigger on the inside, and about the same size on the outside.

I have a 100 page brochure on the 2004 7er now. Turns out they are standard on the 760, but optional on all other models.
I have the whole manual here, so if you are unsure of anything, just ask :)

Well if I'm open to the 5er then I'll look harder at the 03 M5, I really like the 7er though. I think it's a really sexy car, maybe I'm crazy but it looks really nice to me. I know I would love the M5 performance but sacrifice luxury and many of the overkill options that make the 7er such a deal.
