No, sir.

The underpinnings are indeed British, but no-one has got the correct marque yet.

A further clue: 1949.

I'll start the Rootes Group guessing...

Singer?
Title: Re: GTCC 824
Post by: Colin on September 19, 2012, 06:05:01 PM
Singer = Rootes Group, so no. (OK, it was not in 1949, but still no).

Rover and Alvis are the nearest sort of marque......... and the marque that underpins this car is no longer around. They made their last car in 1969.

I figured the brand is long dead, but the UK had so many car brands I'm trying to think logically here...

Triumph?

Post by: Colin on September 20, 2012, 08:34:01 AM
Triumph made their last car in 1984, so, no.

A Riley?

Hurrah, yes, underneath that body style is a Riley chassis.

For bonus points, what else can anyone tell me about the car?

It's British.

It's RHD.

It's RWD.

Very droll!.. and the first of those attributes is debatable as the stylist and coachbuilder were not British.

It's a 1949 Riley 105 Transformable. Created by Walter Koeng who had visions of producing a limited number of these cars, but this one turned out to be just too costly that no more were produced. This car has been in Switzerland almost of all of its live, coming to the UK only very recently, and where I saw, at the Windsor Castle Concours was its first UK appearance.

The car looks conventional from the front. Ghastly from the rear.

So the trick of that car is a panoramic sunroof for all occupants?
