Title: Impreza Steering issue?
Post by: AutobahnSHO on April 13, 2017, 09:47:49 AM
Mostly when the car is cold, wife's car is "impossible to steer". Like the power steering isn't working. There's also some belt squeal when this is happening. Sometimes shutting it off and restarting helps the problem. Belts look good, tension on them looks good. Once it's warmed up everything is ok.

Probable cause?

Would this be an issue with the P/S pump which is seizing, causing the belt squeal?

Motor was replaced, is it probable the P/S pump was swapped or carried over from previous engine?

Thanks y'all!

Probably the p/s pump.  First things first, check the fluid level and for leaks.

Could also be that the pulley bearing on the p/s pump is shot, which would explain squealing under load. Dunno if those are replaceable or if you have to just get a new pump.
