All-New Lincoln Navigator Starts From $72,055, Extended Version Joins The Family

After its debut at the 2017 New York Auto Show, the new generation Lincoln Navigator is set to arrive in dealerships this fall.

Prices for the most 'humble' grade start from $72,055, but customers that find it somewhat "small" should know that an even larger, 'Extended' version has now joined the lineup.

It's almost one foot (30cm) longer than the regular model, which translates not only into a more spacious interior, with legroom increasing by 10in (25cm) courtesy of the extended wheelbase, but also into what Ford's premium brand describes as segment-leading boot space, behind the second row of seats.

As expected, the 2018 Lincoln Navigator Extended is more expensive than the regular model, and it will set its future customers back for at least $80,750. However, besides the obvious difference in size, the former comes with 22-inch wheels, compared to the 20-inch ones available on the latter. Moreover, checking some boxes from the options list, while also selecting the Black Label L trim, which starts from $96,905, could easily make this SUV pass the $100,000 barrier.

Lincoln also offers a new Destination interior trim for the Black Label L top-of-the-line grade, which was inspired by vintage luggage - adding Mahogany Red Venetian leather and khaya wood laser-etched appliqués. Buyers can also opt for other themes, such as the Chalet and Yacht Club.

That interior is hot as fuck.  Bodes well for Lincoln if that is what they will be applying to their cars going forward.

Many cows were sacrificed for that interior.

Still like the front end.  Blunt, but imposing.

I love the throwbacks to past American luxury - those big padded seats, the wood selection, even the color of the leather. I like that new Lincolns are emulating European luxury less and drawing on their own heritage more

That interior would look amazing with less-red brown, but the color in the images is hideous IMO.

It's definitely not a typical luxo interior color, but I think it's very cool as a throwback to American luxury cars interiors even as late as the 80's.

Very very nice.  Separate wide comfy center armrests for the driver and front passenger.  Woohoo.  I like the grill and headlight design.  Reminds me of an owl.  Navigators/Expeditions always had much better 3rd row room compared with Escalades/Tahoes.

Apples to a different breed of apples that are naturally smaller.

(i.e. Navigators/Expeditions are more comparable to the Escalade ESV/Suburban than the base Escalade/Tahoe).

No, Lincoln and Ford have SWB models as well.  The Fords have better third row accommodations due to IRS, when compared to either the equivalent short or LWB GM competitors.

No, the Expedition EL is equivalent to the Suburban. The Expedition=Tahoe.

Hmm, fair enough. The Explorer and SWB Expedition are a lot closer in size than  I was thinking. The Tahoe basically splits the difference (at least in length).

What do you mean? The question you should be asking is how cars like the ATS or companies like Cadillac/Jaguar aren't dead yet. Those make way less sense than Lincolns.

Navigator price seems to match Escalades, which starts at
73395.  Escalade will likely be faster and looks a we bit better on the outside.  Navigator has better interior (hard to kind of top it without going exotic) and has better interior room.

I think this will significantly cut into Caddy sales.

All the vehicles indicated, Lincoln, Cadillac, Jaguar are marques, that is, brands or makes that existed and once represented the best of their ilk.  Although, to a certain extent, they are now merely off-shoots of something lesser, especially Lincoln and Cadillac, it would be good if they could be made to, once again, represent something truly remarkable.  The domestic manufacturers had fallen far behind their European counterparts in this respect.

I don't think it's platform use - I think it's Cadillac's lack of direction in regards to interior and exterior design that makes them not stand out. The Continental and Navigator beat the brakes of anything Cadillac is doing right now.

Also, they should have kept the wreath on the logo.

I don't think it's platform use - I think it's Cadillac's lack of direction in regards to interior and exterior design that makes them not stand out. The Continental and Navigator beat the brakes of anything Cadillac is doing right now.

Also, they should have kept the wreath on the logo.

The wreath was originally not part of the logo. It was actually just for Fleetwoods at first; Devilles, Calais, series 60s had the freestanding crest with no wreath.

It was only when the Fleetwood factory was closed that the wreath spread to the entire lineup for a while.

They should have kept the damned ducks though.

I mean, the Continental is basically what I have been suggesting Cadillac have in its lineup for the past 4-5 years. Take the bread and butter big FWD platform, give it the best interior/exterior design, interior space and build quality $40-60K can buy, give it an exclusive powertrain, profit. It's been working for the ES, MKZ and now Continental  for years. For all the hate Lincoln gets, the MKZ outsells all of each of Cadillac's current sedans by like 2:1, and has been doing so for years. People dont give a shit about what the ATS is good at, for the most part. They want comfort, space, design and prestige

They have that car, though. It's the XTS.

XTS = Continental. In pricing, in concept, in size, in everything.

Or buy a Lacrosse. That sells for about the same price, is about the same size, and moves about the same units as the MKZ.

Making a 2nd XTS is redundant. If anything, they should just make the XTS better.

Nah, until recently the MKZ was asinine. Also, the MKS barely moves any units.

Why is the XTS trash?  It's a big, FWD, spacious sedan.

It does not have a good design. Exterior wise, proportions are awful and A&S is played out. Inside, CUE. They need to give it up. And it just doesn't look as thoughtfully designed as the Continental.

I thought the Continental was actually a price tier higher until I looked it up.

I'm with Sporty on this.  The XTS is the right idea, but poorly executed.  The Continental seems much more upscale, and aesthetics play a big part in that.  The XTS looks like a Lacrosse with the A&S styling slapped onto it.  Very bulky and inelegant, and ultimately kind of lower-rent when compared to the Continental.  The XTS reminds me very much of the MKS, which also suffered from sharing too much in shape with a lesser vehicle.

Success in the luxury realm stems from mastering the subjective. No $60K personal vehicle is selling solely on objective merits

Boom. Navigator.

Let's be honest the XTS isn't good enough to compete with the new Continental when it comes to things that customers of that type of car care about.  Yeah it's probably much better dynamically but really, who cares?

If you want luxury, distinctive style, and fancy options you buy the Lincoln.

I'm not sure if it's even better dynamically.  The Conti's platform is closely related to the Fusion's CD4 platform, which is a decent base in terms of driving dynamics.  At least as good as, if not better than, Epsilon II.

I think the XTS has GM's Hi-per strut thing + Mag ride, but maybe you're right.

Exactly. And 99% of people buying in this segment prioritize what the Lincoln has over what the Cadillac has.

No, it hasn't.

2016 ATS Sales = 21K units

2016 CTS Sales = 15K units (eek)

2016 XTS Sales = 22K units

2016 MKZ Sales = 30K units

2016 MKS Sales = 5000 Units (wow)

Nope, Cadillac is selling them over by almost 2 to 1. Will this trend continue? Who knows.

Why is it so painful to admit the Alpha platform is a sales flop? It's a great platform that doesn't deliver what buyers want  Even Mr. H fell back on this.

Because it's going to soldier on for 10 years. You repetedly saying "its a flop" doesn't do anything. You assert that GM should just abandon RWD platforms altogether.

Also, GM sells 100K units Cadillac cars in China. About 45K of them being the Alpha/Omega based cars.

Also, I've not really liked Cadillac's new modern aesthetic interiors. They're spartan.

I really like how Lincoln is channeling the late 1970's and 1980's in their interiors - not a decade people look to. But here, it works.
