Title: Limited Rear-Drive Audi R8 RWS
Post by: cawimmer430 on February 28, 2018, 11:56:53 AM
A real alternative to the Miata, BRZ or CR-V.  :ohyeah:

Limited Rear-Drive Audi R8 RWS Priced From £112,450 OTR In The UK

Audi has announced the pricing details of the limited-edition R8 RWS (Rear Wheel Series) for the UK market.

Described as a purebred version of the Audi R8, the RWS version drives its rear wheels only in a bid to offer a sharper character down the road and will be available in just 999 examples worldwide.

Turning the R8 into a rear-driven sports car involves ditching the propshaft, multi-plate clutch and center differential, which makes it also lighter by 50kg (110lbs) in the case of the Coupe and by 40kg (88lbs) in the case of the open-top Spyder.

The world's first rear-drive Audi features specially adapted chassis and suspension settings in order to further sharpen the handling character and the electromechanical power steering now said to offer more precision and feel.

Power comes from the naturally aspirated and mid-mounted 5.0-liter V10 engine that produces 532hp (540PS) and 398lb-ft (540Nm) of torque than can optionally be fitted with a freer sports exhaust. Audi Sport claims a 0-62mph (100km/h) in 3.7 seconds (Spyder: 3.8 seconds) and a top speed of 198mph (Spyder: 197mph).

All UK models come equipped with a generous spec that includes exclusive 19-inch wheels, all-LED headlights and LED taillights with dynamic indicators, leather and Alcantara heated sport seats, as well as the obligatory plaque that signifies the special and limited character of Audi Sport's latest model.

The company also offers a full range of customization options for those who want to further tailor their new Audi R8 RWS.

Pricing in the UK starts from £112,450 OTR for the Audi R8 Coupe RWS and £121,140 for the Spyder version. Audi expects the first cars to arrive in the country this March.

I like the R8 a lot since it's basically a discounted Lambo. And it looks great.

For this gen I am intrigued as to why the Huracan has been getting glowing reviews while the R8's have been less enthusiastic.

I liked them when they first came out, but I'm bored by them now. The styling just doesn't do it for me.

The same way I feel about the whole Audi lineup.  Can't tell any Audi made in the last 15 years apart.

Wow.  That sets a huge precedent for Audi.

Are they also bringing the manual back?

... and the 1st gen R8 V10 Roadster with gated manual is still my lotto car. They really lost something with the redesign.

I'd take the V8.  I prefer to be less on fire than you normally get when owning a Gallardo V10.

I'd take either, but the V10 has proven to be the more reliable and less complex engine.

The V8 is barely faster than an E92 M3. I'd go V10 or bust.

I am pretty sure you could put a Camry V6 in that car and I would still love how it drives.

I would totally DD an R8 5.2. I could see it being pretty easy to live with on a daily basis and would be quite fun. Also, I think it looks terrific

CR-V's 1.5L turbo would be more than enough. Pulls like a freight train.

It really does tho. I think that motor in a small MR car would be great.

Are you sure about that?  I was under the impression that the V10 suffered the same firestarter problems that the Gallardo had.

You drive nothing but German cars, since when do you care about reliability :wtf:

Give me the Gallardo 550-2 with the 6MT (only because the E-gear was so awful) or the Huracan 590-2 with the DSG.

1. Being on fire is different from being unreliable.
2. All of my German cars have been plenty reliable, except for my Mercedes.

Well, by that reasoning the fire stuff is just internet hearsay. I'm sure the V10 would be fine.

Remember that Sporty is the ULTIMATE AUTHORITY on german car reliability. No facts will ever stop him from imagining thay german cars are tockong time bombs that always "spend a lot of time in the shop", even when bought new.

Did I ever tell y'all about the poor 3-series I totaled? In an outer suburb of Mannheim. It was 21 years old, had upwards of 510,000km on the odometer. The insurance company said "that's low for that model year!"

I'm flattered by this triggering

And I think all German cars are so unreliable that I called my wife's VOLKSWAGEN Rabbit "one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned", and have stated several times that my next car will probably be a 6 banger F30, or if Jupiter is in alignment, a 997 C2. Don't let your paranoia over the S85 time bomb force you into paranoid hyperbole, that is my thing
