She never really liked the 2014 Focus, and the deals are good on Fusions these days, so got her a nice silver 2018 Fusion. It's a better car for sure. Anyway, I currently own two pickups, neither of which gets over 14 MPG, so the plan is sell the old 2001 Dodge pickup and keep the Focus for me to drive to work.
The Focus as a DD is interesting, it's SYNC system answers my phone and plays all my music from a USB key (hey, new to me ;) ). But the damn car has no individualism or personality.
It's a white 4 door- I need to add something to make it stand out a little. Not sure what yet. Wheels? Paint? Curb feelers?
Congrats! Made in Mexico too!
(Oops)
Hahaha.
Seriously, I think it´s a fine car.

Well, at least the transmission was US made.
Add blue racing stripes

Does it have one of those herky-jerky dual clutch semi-automatic gearboxes?

Yes, the worst fucking part.
The Fusion has a normal torque converter 6 speed auto. The Focus has the herky jerky trans. Supposedly, the latest clutch kits are better. Car (Focus) has a year of powertrain warranty left, so...
I kind of like the racing stripes idea. I always thought the front end of the '14 model was kind of race car looking.
Maybe remove the hubcaps- lower it....
Get some smoothie hubcaps and race it at El Mirage.
Congrats! The local Ford dealer had a sale on a brand new 5 speed Focus S for under 13K but it's too big of a car for what I needed. But to answer your question, on a white car the first thing I would do is tint the windows and if you were inclined maybe some black rims?

Damn. Might.already have the Dodge sold. Haven't even done CL or even bought a sign yet. The local landscaper guy wants it.
At this point with how much money Ford dealers are putting on the hoods of your average Ford, it would be stupid to not give them a look. The Fusion just so happens to be a nice car that still looks great. Congrats.

Agree. Solid value in the segment.
Fusion is one of the last good-looking sedans, IMO. It's not all edgy and busy like a lot of other mainstreamers. It's more subtle and stately like a 5 series or Audi.
Congrats!!
Congratulations on the new car. Hopefully Mrs. Shp4man enjoys driving it.

I remember the shock when it initially came out, since it's almost worthy of an Aston Martin badge.
It's gotten a little stale since then. Can't believe they've done nothing to update it.

The latest gen? Yeah. The first gen with the Gilette grille though...bleh.
I'm generally fine with stale.
I don't give a fuck what any o' y'all say, this was and still is a good-looking car:
It is, but the current gen is soooo much better.
Congrats on the new car!
I've never sat in a Fusion but I like how they look. Did you consider the hybrid?
Like someone else said different wheel/tire combo will make the Escort look more interesting. Tint is cool too but I don't know how much your state enforces tint legal limits. I don't like racing stripes but that's just me.
Escorts with blue racing stripes are the best!

The problem with updating a good design is that they, invariably, make it worse looking. It's been happening for decades. Beautiful designs in the late '30s began to take on a clunky look a few years later. Same in each decade. The original Taurus was great looking; and then they ended up with that oval looking goofy looking thing.
With the latest design of the Fusion, they've blended a rather elegant style with simplicity and it came out looking quite svelte. They shouldn't mess with it too much until they're ready with a new design theme.

I'm afraid there's not much you can do with that to make it stand out. Best bet is to swap it for a beat up ST and use your mechanical magic to breath new life into it. Paint it orange while you're at it.
My neighbor just got a great deal on a turbo awd fusion sport. It is a great value with the immense discounts.
My parents fusion hybrid seems to be holding up very well. Much better then out exploding transmission fuckos

Isn't a good quality changing the color of a car paint job like $5000 though?

I suspect that Shippy's pretty handy with an aerosol spray can.

LOL. Actually, a reasonably good quality paint job can be had for a little over a grand. No bodywork needed on this car. I don't know, maybe I should just leave it mostly as is. I'm trying to figure a way to put poverty/dog dish hubcaps on it and 16 inch trim rings. Maybe a pinstriping job. Something. Anything.
Good quality 30% block window tint in gray will make it look better.
Sold the Dodge tonight. That was easy. Thank God, still have Ol' Blue, though. :ohyeah:
The damn little Focus is getting over 30MPG in stop and go, fast and slow Kalifornia traffic with the A/C on. Amazing. It's an SFE model- built for MPG. Sure is small inside, though. Gotta get Dave, our transmission man, to put new clutches in it. Sound system needs better bass response, too.
All in good time...
After some research, there are several 2014 Focus builds that are actually kind of cool. This one:
