Any model, just pick your chassis.
For me it doesn't get better than option #1.
I'm with you. But I would love to have any of them.
The 993 is my favorite Porsche. If you made it a Turbo S, it'd be perfect.
993 GT2. Pure Porsche.
997 GTW3
When it comes to Porsche, the rule in my book is, "The newer the better". The whole rear engine thing made the older ones really hard to handle.
997>996>993 IMO
As a weekend toy I'd take the 993. But if I were buying a 911 it would be a year round daily driver so I'll take a 997 Turbo.
993 for sure
997>996>993 IMO. But they're all amazing.
There's some speculation as to why the 996-7 take half the time to make compared to the 993. The second-most Porsche collector in the U.S. behind Jerry Seinfeld told me that it's because Porsche's suppliers moved closer to Stuttgart and also because it shares a lot more interchangeable parts with the Boxster than the 993 ever did with the 924/944/968 and 928 ever did.
Personally, I believe that the older car had more involvement by hand than the new ones do. I'm inclined to say that I want to feel that kind of craftsmanship when I get into a car like that. I want to have all of the charm, the quirks, and the individually-built quality. The 996-7 just looks too...generic. Porsche did wonders with the 997, but I still want an air cooled Porsche some day like they were meant to be.
993
I fart on all of them and choose the 997 Ruf.

Most Porsche guys will agree that the 993 is more involving and fun to drive than the 996 or 997, but the 996-997's are more liveable and make better daily drivers.

So do Cayennes.

whats your point?
They're more livable and make better daily drivers, do you disagree?

I wouldn't disagree with that, but it doesn't mean that I'd rather drive one daily over a 911.

You just said it makes a better daily driver, but you wouldn't choose it over a 911?
Me confused.

Its probably more comfortable and practical. But i'd be willing to sacrifice comfort and practicality for something that I
enjoy driving.
I am going to break the rules a bit and add a fourth choice. The RUF CTR .
A short video is available on this page, with some basic info.

Then apply that same logic between different 911s. Or between old and new BMWs. Or between classic and new trucks.
Its the same thing.
People don't get involved with cars because they're practical and reliable. They love them because they're cool.
And some are- quite clearly and non-subjectively- cooler than others.

I never said there was anything wrong with picking the older 911 or older BMW did I?
997
i'm actually surprised other people voted for the 996 as well. I thought i was the only one

Would you ever take it to the track/autocross course, though?
It's not like the tail is going to snap loose at speeds you'd go on public roads.

I voted for 996. The only model I'm interested in is the Turbo, and the 996 turbo looks the best.
996>993>993
997 Turbo, then the 993. I really like all of them though.
