Wait, the world stopped turning??

jk, have fun.

12,000 RPM

Instructor let me borrow his Vanson suit.... gotta prep the bike tonight. Just thinking out loud/making a list....

- gotta replace coolant with water
- gotta take off headlight & mirrors and tape off tail light
- gotta pick up U-haul van and get ratchet straps
- gotta build little BS ramp out of wood to load bike into van
- gotta figure out what to wear and bring as far as layers and clothes
- gotta test camera (got a chest strap and a plug in mic)... make sure the angle and sound is good

Lot of piddly little shit. Lmao the color of this suit and my helmet..... you guys are gonna laugh. I'm nervous but I'm excited.

I highly recommend ratchet straps that have a carabineer on the one end.

I hope the UHaul van has anchor points

What kinda van are you getting?  Last couple times I've been in a Uhaul box truck there were no specific anchor points. Just wooden slats along the walls.

Get a MotoD under suit. If it's hot your cotton clothes won't breathe underneath and the leather will get stuck to any exposed skin.

Keep drinking tons of water and electrolytes.

Same. Worked well enough to get from Colorado to Kentucky.

I'm getting a 9 foot van so like an Econoline or something. It looks like they have wood slats. I'm debating getting a pickup truck but I don't know if the little hooks will work. Instructor said I can chill in his garage so I won't need cover and the truck would be a little easier to drive.

Little hooks?  You mean eye bolts that are meant for tie-downs...?

Van would probably be easier to load it into (floor height < bed height), especially if you're doing it alone.

Im going to build or rent a ramp so load height is irrelevant

If you build a ramp, make sure you get your wife to record you loading the bike so we can all enjoy the lol's if it's anything like the typical homemade vehicle ramps from youtube
"On a given day, a given circumstance, you think you have a limit. And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit, and you think, 'Okay, this is the limit'. And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high." - Ayrton Senna

How much does your bike weigh?  Just be a baus and ride up. I've done it exactly twice...and only when nobody was around to see.

Trick to a ramp is making sure the angle is shallow enough that you don't high-center the frame or oil pan at the point where the ramp meets the load floor.  Do the math, save your oil pan.  Also, make sure the ramp is both strong and rigid enough.  Wooden planks have a surprising amount of flex if not reinforced.  I'd also recommend either making the ramp wide enough that you can comfortably ride the bike up, or use a second ramp that you can walk up as you're pushing the bike to avoid having to try supporting the bike while stepping up to the load floor.  That or have a friend help with loading and unloading (one person pushing from the ground while another takes over inside the van, vice versa for unloading).

Yeah, I use a step stool to aid in getting between the ground and the bed.  Once you get a rhythm down, it's easy.

A van shouldn't give you too many issues with slope or clearance. Your first time up a lifted truck or on a truck at a bad angle can be pretty harrowing.

But why tow it period? Ride and race baby! That's the way James Dean woulda done it.

Sporty's bike weighs close to double what a dirtbike weighs.  Typical MX bike is like 230 lbs.  Sporty's 650 is like 450 with fluids (maybe a little less for his since he stripped the fairing, but still over 400).

All this is irrelevant if Sporty just wheelies up the ramp.

For loading it into the van, sure.  But wheelie-ing it back down the ramp to unload?  That's the real trick.

Picking up an arched ramp tomorrow. That will take care of the oil pan problem.

Arched ramp acquired. Had to go out to the sticks, but the seller was a dude from California who did a lot of road racing. He had a '62 Caddy drop top with a turbo LS and a shitload of dirt bikes. Pics of his 510 all over his walls. He was definitely living his best life. We talked for like an hour.

Ramps look good too but if I actually do this I think I'm gonna get a trailer. I don't know that it would be #coilovernation compatible though, I'd have to take the MKX. Leaving work at noon today to go take care of all this shit (and wait for an IKEA delivery  ). Weather is looking decent tomorrow... should be a good time
