Porsche has responded to the 911 GT3 engine defect. Apparently the defects are due to contamination in the metallurgy of the cam regulation. If it breaks a $100.000 new engine is the result. Apparently it is impossible to determine which engines have the defective parts, so Porsche has issued a 10 year 120,000 mile warranty on the engine. Those effected should all break in that time frame. A somewhat crude, but effective solution. Those planning a road trip from sea to shinning sea might be a bit uncomfortable.

The Chinese have done well with Volvo, and the Indians with Jaguar/Land Rover so there is no need for doom & gloom. I actually think the worst part of that is Alfa Romeo, and Maserati being spun off. I doubt that they are sustainable on their own.

12,000 RPM

Alfa has a nice little wave but Maserati deserves to die.

And yea you are right, China has done well with its purchases. But FCA is a behemoth that profits on a lot of cultural context and momentum.

Can you imagine how pissed off all the MOPAR guys would be if their beloved U S n A muscle cars were suddenly owned and produced by the Chinese?  Shippy's head might explode and I don't even think he's a MOPAR guy.

It's only a fraction worse than the French, who were basically a lateral move from the Germans.

This morning, went off-post to a farewell breakfast for a colleague moving to Louisiana.

As I left the restaurant fell in immediately behind a black ND driven by a Soldier in Uniform, cigarette in his hand and top down. I got my momentary jealousy twinge and thought it was nice seeing that- but then we got on I-81 and he had cruise on, set to the same speed as mine. He drove pretty much the same way I do- 70mph in a 65zone, blinkers around cars and semis,

so I was excited to see how he would handle the "45mph" curve from I-81 North to eastbound 781. It's banked pretty well so I take it usually 60mph in Odyssey.

https://www.google.com/maps/@44.0449716,-75.9115253,1115m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en

He left cruise on, so I did too- although the curve is a bit scarier in a minivan. :mrcool:   He didn't seem to have any issues whatsoever. And he slowed down at the same intervals going into the gate I do (limit changes 55mph/45mph/25mph/10mph).    So it was a fun morning, and really kicks my Miata lust into overdrive...

Exactly what I was thinking.

Dude, you paced it in a minivan. That would be a "I ain't missin nuthin" moment.

MrH

I think Evoras in general are underrated.  Really cool looking.  They're light, supposedly drive well, relatively practical for a sports car, and they're mid engine.  They're also incredibly simple, so I don't think maintenance would be too bad honestly.  It's a Camry V6, nothing crazy tech wise.  No active suspension or air springs or anything.

Even as a second car, an Elise is almost too extreme.  An Evora is a nice compromise.  My issue:  There are so few out there, especially with a manual, that finding one with what you want for a decent price is almost impossible.  They're so niche and rare, they'll never depreciate all that much.

Jesus that is a thin rim.

The webs are really thin but the outer hoop is not that thin. The gold outlining makes it look a lot more thin than it really is.

Those are generally solid, sometimes they have front diff issues.

Drives fun for what it is. Ride is a bit harsh. You will have to replace the transfer case at some point, maybe you can find one where that has already been done.
