Well, yeah, if I had asked for and listened to this forum's advice on anything Miata related I'd still have a stock Miata because OEM is the best mod.

Nah buddy, you're not going to slap longer off-road shocks, stiffer springs, and big knobby tires on any truck to smooth out the ride. Every review I've read has said basically, "and the ride isn't as bad as you might think," and that it makes it more truck-like.

Like I said, best case scenario you simply don't notice the difference, but more importantly what benefit will it give you? I guess it looks more bad-ass, and that's reason enough for some.

I will say that the 4Runner Trail rides noticeably better than the regular 4Runner.

Soup DeVille

On this topic, if anybody has ever ridden in a Jeep with an OME suspension ( which is at least a couple inches higher than stock on the TJs), then they would know there are lifts that also improve the ride.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

The TRD suspension doesn't have $9000 shocks.

That's strange. I remember reading in a review when the first Raptor came out that a replacement set of the Fox shocks was $9000, but I just checked and they are $700 each. I wonder where that reviewer got his info from.

Ford wants you to believe you're riding on $9,000 shocks   Kind of a cool product, but it's not all that radical of a design.

What I'm looking at isn't extreme.  1.5" lift at most.  Here's what I'm getting:

Ride should be quite a bit better.  It's essentially the same setup at the TRD Pro.  If I didn't get it for dirt cheap, I might not bother.

Here are my dope mods on the way:

- Armrest console organizer, coin tray thing, Drop Stop (as seen on Shark Tank ), trailer hitch plug
- HID setup from The Retrofit Source (at least this came with projectors.  It's simple to do the ballast and bulb swap into the stock projectors)
- LED Foglights w/ yellow tint from The Retrofit Source
- Probably debadging the chrome SR5 badges from the C-pillar today.  It's just extra chrome clutter.

If you keep all/most suspension bushings rubber, the ride quality won't suffer. Bushings and sway bars affect ride quality a lot more than springs, in my experience. And upgrading to good monotube shocks will help ride far more than a few more lb/in on the springs.

Let's be honest, lift kits are for looks ;). Along with bigger tires (read: more unsprung weight, sometimes hugely so) ride quality will diminish, esp. bound, float and NVH (tire, wind noise).

TOYOTA grill is on. Also debadged the stupid SR5 badges from the C pillars.

Got a few more things I have to work on this weekend. LED bulbs for interior, puddle lights, license plate light, etc.

Also, need to put in the HID system I got from the retrofit source. Bulbs, ballasts, igniters, relays. Also, I've got some yellow tinted LED fog lights to go in too.

Once I'm done with all of that I'll take some new pictures.

No, sounds cool. Some nice pics would be cool.

Where does I source TRD Off Road sway bars?  I hear they're skinnier than the Sports.  Dealership?

LOL. God forbid we offer honest opinions and advice.

One of things I like about the Spin is that we're all from different aspects of life and have different interests when it comes to cars. It's a whole lot better than the circle jerk on most forums.

Anyway, sweet ride Mike! I'm hoping that the Explorer will last me long enough that I can save for a new 4Runner.

My Explorer is a 2007 and has 212,000 kms (132,000 miles) and everything is starting to fail.  TPMS sensors are failing, rear window wiper died, front passenger side window has difficulty going up, has a rough idle and sometimes stalls, transmission is acting up with hard shifts and delayed engagement, the interior lights come on whenever I hit a bump or step on the brakes, and the heater core is failing now.  Unfortunately, almost all of these issues have popped up in the last 10,000 kms.  I'm debating whether to fix everything, or just fix some things, or do I get a new truck because I'm worried about what else will fail after I pay to fix what's currently wrong.  It's going to cost nearly as much as what the truck is worth to fix all that is wrong with it right now.

Damn, that is pretty horrible for only having 130k miles. My '91 4Runner had 155k miles and even being 24 years old every switch, light and instrument worked perfectly.

I guess that's why Toyotas command such a premium on the used market.

Yeah.  Until the last 10,000 kms (6000 miles) my Explorer has been rock solid. Now, I want to roll it off a cliff.
