So they can pull your dead body out of the car.

I would hope unless my car is on fire, nobody pulls me anywhere until EMS arrives

I had missed your thread. Weird titles can do that.

I love it. Congrats. Best driver's car to get.

Hachi means 8 and roku means 6.  Come on man, I spent four months living in Japan and you didn't pick that up?

Point by's.  SCCA rules usually dictate they be done to driver's left, but the layout of this track, and track rules dictate point by's to the right.

Beautiful color.  These cars are fantastic, hope it gives you years of trouble free track days.  When do the new tires come in

these tires stick.  Too well, at least until they get greasy... then it's fun  :ohyeah:

Thanks. Was looking for something cheap, fun to drive, newish, and reliable.  Found a gem... though I still enjoy the Miata for county road drive more.

I was thinking about overly helpful marshals or anybody else that might be there. We were talking about track days, not some official series race or something

I know. Hachiroku=86 (but not eighty-six, that's different).

Admittedly, I've never been to any track day, but I'd think that someone there would be a trained EMT.

Does that mean I should call his car the "eight six" not the "eighty-six"?

lol I missed this thread too.

I wish the Subie version had the better suspension, so I can't fault going for the stepchild option. I just wish it came with a sunroof so I could lust after it.

But congrats!!

Yes.  Eighty six is "hachi-jū roku".  The basics of Japanese numbers 11-99 is the amount of 10s (jū) and then the extra.  Hachi is 8.  Jū is 10.  Roku is 6.  So 86 is eight tens and six.  Hachi-jū roku.

(You may also see juu or jū; I've seen both)

10K/6 month update:

I did pretty terrible at a local autocross.  I'm interested in getting another set of wheels with the slipperiest all seasons for DD use, and some Potenza RE71Rs on the stock wheels for D Street class SOLO.

The calibration of the throttle is still very annoying.  The first 10% of pedal travel gives you 50% throttle, 50% travel is 90% throttle.

No hiccups yet.  The LED headlights are a blessing and make the Miata's halogens seem dangerous.

I'd like to get some white racing strips and tint along with the aforementioned wheels.  Maybe Gramlights 57C

Looking to do a track day at Roebling Road in GA, VIR, and get on Road Atlanta also (which should have a TNiA next year).

Drive by wire.  If you want to change the throttle calibration, you need to flash the control module.

There HAS to be a way to put a damper on that but it would likely require too much tinkering. It's really obnoxious. You could never jam the gas on that van, it would spin the tires every time. You had to start off slow and gradually apply more pressure.

I'm pretty sure it's so people shopping would think  "WOW THIS THING HAS SO MUCH POWAH!!!!!!!!!" but really really hated it.

There's no mechanical fix.  And providing the sensation that the car is quicker is why it's done.  There's a popular mod called PedalMax, IIRC, that a lot of the Mustang guys get that steepens the throttle curve.  Several, who don't understand what the mod does, think it gives the car more power.  All it does is reprogram the controller to open the throttle more with less pedal application.  Apparently people are too lazy to put the pedal to the floor to get WOT.

You have to learn to adjust.  I like it when I can just tickle the pedal get a burst of speed.  Gotta have the touch if you want to be a race-car driver :ohyeah:.

Some vehicles are poorly calibrated.  Most of my cars have been DBW.  No complaints other than some delay/hang when lifting (which is more of an emissions control "feature" than poor design).

I don't think Toyota is good at DBW.

My Yaris was notorious for being downright frustrating to drive in 1st. The couple DWB Vibes I had were also weird, too.

So which is it DWB or DBW; and what the hell does it mean? :fogey:
