Does this sound like a pickup?

Saw/heard some yahoo in a lifted Cheby Silvertato last night that sounded pretty much like that at the lower half of the RPM range.

I highly doubt it. That's a destroked LS7 through sidepipes. Totally different animal than a 5.3L iron block truck motor.

Think this guy had either a 5.7 or 6.0 (maybe a 6.2, it was dark and I couldn't make out the exact year) with glass packs.  And in the lower RPM registers, yes, it sounded very similar.

I love burbly Silverados.  Way better sounding than that EcoBoost garbage.

Yeah, I much prefer the sound of a V8 over an EcoBoost; even if it's in a Silverdildo.  Doesn't beat the sound of an F150 V8 though, especially supercharged.

Stock vs. stock, I prefer the sound of GM trucks.  Not saying a Ford V8 doesn't sound good, I just think GM's typically sound better (unless we're talking Raptor...).

Chevy and Ford sound is basically a tie for me. HEMI wins easily over both.

EcoPoop F150s sound like garbage.  When I bought my Mustang, I was invited to a new owners gathering at the dealership where they had free food and swag and they talked about availability of Ford Performance/Racing parts that they sold.  Put up a video to highlight the various Ford Racing Exhaust options (vs stock) for sound quality on different vehicles (trucks and Mustangs, mostly).  Ecoboost F150 sounded like nothing with the stock exhaust and like a late 80s GM 3.1L pushrod V6 with a rotten muffler with the "performance exhaust".  Can't believe they'd even want people to see/hear that.

Hahahaha.... I wouldn't go that far, but it's definitely not a sound worthy of a big honkin Mrca truck

It does get uncomfortably close to that sound though

I would go that far.  The Ecoboost in the F150 sounds utterly horrible with a loud exhaust.  And it's not a "I don't like V6s" thing.  I like many V6s.  Loved the sound of the 3.7 in my last Mustang.  The EB F150, blech...  No aggression, just unrefined noise and drone.  The only EB V6 I've heard that sounds remotely good is the Ford GT.

I think this was the actual video they showed:

Displacement makes a difference.  A muted rumble vs. a sharp bark in many cases.  I prefer the intensity of the sharp bark followed by the primeval howl of the smaller displacement Ford V8s; the Voodoo practically makes my hair stand on end.  But it's really the sound of the small block Windsors, HiPo versions that I like the best.  Really unique.

Kind of surprising that they can make the sound of the EcoBoost in the GT sound so good.

Well that was just not fair

I think a big part of what makes a nice engine note is aggressive cam timing.... these new turbo engines are tuned to peter out early so it's no wonder so many of them sound like shit. The old domestic V6s were tuned the same way so that's no surprise.

But same firing order, same exhaust port layout. With the same exhaust they sound  at least ~80% the same to me.

Poor bastards. There are a few EB F150s around here with aftermarket exhaust and it's embarrassing.

Now add the lousy MPG and the reliability issues how is it that anyone can claim that Ecoboost was a good idea?

MX793

I wouldn't say they get lousy fuel economy.  My brother has an EB F150 (the older, steel-bodied model) which replaced a much less powerful, 5.4L F150.  The ecoboost gets far better mileage (IIRC, he gets ~22 mpg highway, his old truck got ~16) and is significantly punchier.

Lousy WRT the sticker MPG, and plenty of comparison tests show it to be no better and sometimes worse than the GM 6.2L.

Amazing how all the other manufacturers jumped on the bandwagon.  You'da thought they'd knowed better.

An EB F150 gets about the same gas mileage, and crucially, is about as fast as my old 350Z. EPA tests are w/e but there's nothing lousy about that kind of real world performance.

GM, Dodge, Toyota and Nissan? None of them make a N/A turbo truck (at least in the USA).

What does this even mean? The 350Z is a 15-year-old car.

GM's 6.2L pooprod does all that, and maybe a bit more, plus it's much simpler and far more reliable (and sounds 1000% better) than the EB V6.

15 years ago a pickup getting such performance probably got half that fuel mileage. There's clear progress that's been made.

And the new SBC V8 has its own problems... Very basic disappointing manufacturing 101 shit too. So that's not a win for the Chevy. The EB's ghastly engine note is though.
