'Rona makes campers more attractive due to their self sufficiency - you have your own kitchen, your own bathroom - but otherwise I agree with you. The insurance, fuel, and depreciation definitely make RVs a losing value proposition against hotels, unless you have a LOT OF TIME to spend in that RV to amortize the costs.

See, renting a cabin is more my speed. Did it last year, loved it. Actual camping? Not for me.

All the camper is is a portable cabin. Mine's more or less self-contained, so I can set it up anywhere on state or national forest areas. A couple weeks ago, I went to a spot on the Rifle River; spent a few days fishing, or kayaking, or just sitting and watching the river go by in a beautiful, secluded spot.

Ok, so lots of people just go to RV parks or organized campgrounds, which are basically like portable trailer parks; and I don't get that.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

It's a taste of trailer park living without having to fully commit to the white trash lifestyle.

OK, but what "leisure purchase" ever makes financial sense overall?

I have lots of fun paying for the accommodations I actually use, while not having to maintain or drive or shoehorn my hotel room into noisy camper lots with other RV folks.

Like I said, I don't really get camper lots.

But you may have lots of fun; but paying isn't part of that fun, is it?

BTW, y'all bought that boat yet?

We rent our boats. Per-day it's expensive, but it's a huge convenience and cost savings in the end.

The cabin I rented had WiFi.

But my biggest question that remains is--aren't all trailer parks portable trailer parks?

I actually like getting out of cell range. Otherwise, I've gone pretty soft.

Yes and no?

I mean, its a much bigger deal moving a "trailer park" trailer; they take the wheels off and everything.

That's fair. But for the Supreme Court, even a mobile home without wheels has the same level of privacy as a car and not a home, due to "inherent mobility".

OK. Same with Airstreams, and many guns and airplanes too.  I guess- as long as the operating costs aren't added to the calculations...

That won't fly in merrica. You need a 950 HP lifted truck to tow anything here, or your dick is small.

I saw a 2015ish Kia SUV towing an early 2010s Ram 1500 with a front axle trailer.  I didn't think anything of it at first, but it had to be past the tow rating for the Kia.  It definitely wasn't the Borrego.  First time I've ever seen anyone tow near the max or beyond the max tow rating down here.

Flat towing is a little different from hitch towing in terms of how it affects the tow vehicle (e.g. dynamic stability).  Less strain on the rear suspension since tongue weight is basically zero.  Still the same demand on brakes and power train, though.

I've begun calling them caravaners here. I think ranting about them is required. They're always clogging up the roads and forcing semi trucks to pass them, which gets in the way of normal car traffic.

It's crazy that we don't require the drivers to possess CDLs. Some of those RVs are so freakin' huge!

I believe the bigger motor homes do require a higher class of license.

Nope: not as long as you are hauling your own property for your own non-commercial purposes.

You do need an air brakes endorsement if your vehicle has them, and recreational doubles (two trailers) require an endorsement, but there is no driving test, just a written one and a fee.

So I don't need an A or a B license to drive most motor homes?  I was looking to rent one to see what it's like, seems like some asks for A or B licenses..

The old Case tractor we had on the farm 70 years ago had a similar feature, split brake pedal that you could apply to either back wheel.  Clip them together if you wanted both to brake evenly.

I expect that the Bronco works on electronics.
