Merc W123 is the first option. Is the photo not showing up?

Right. Pic doesn't show up.

The Merc would probably last forever. But I'd take the BMW.

Yep, 5-er all the way.

I remember reading in C&D a long time ago that some guy's worst nightmare was being stuck in traffic with an Audi 5000 behind him and a Ford Pinto in front of him.

The BMW, Audi, Volvo, Toyota and Datsun/Nissan don't belong in this poll. These were not 'ballin' cars. These were the sorts of cars that yuppies and stuffy old college professors drove. It wasn't until later in the '80s that BMWs became ballin', and not until the '90s that Audis did so. I would argue that no Volvo, Toyota or Nissan should ever appear in a poll like this.

The Chrysler was in the vein of a ballin' car, but was a little too downmarket by then. There wasn't much separating a Fifth Avenue from a Dodge Diplomat. The Lincoln was in the same boat, being a little too close in execution to a tarted-up Ford LTD. Which it was.

The Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac are the only true ballin' cars here, and being that the Seville was a pile of shit the choice is obvious.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have put the Cressida and Maxima in the poll, but they were kinda the precursors to Lexus and Infiniti, so I figured what the hell.

The premise of the poll is "pick a 30-year-old car"; you're kind of reaching here as far as desirability goes anyway. :tounge:

Dude that W123 is awesome

I would totally do one, with AMG cosmetic treatment, wagon back and a lil mo boost

There is only one right answer, and it's BMW.

In terms of styling the bustle back Cadillac Seville beats all of them by a billion years.  :mrcool:

But the W123 is the best car here. Those things are indestructible. The best Mercedes' ever made.

W123. It IMO epotimizes a good luxury car of the 80's.

The Audi I never really considered a luxury car on the same level as MB (same with Volvo).

The Seville I have admired for the design risks it took in the 80's, but we all know it's a terrible car.

The BMW is a close second, but I like the MB more.

No thankyou to the Continental.

The 5th Avenue I can't equate as a luxury car in my mind.

The Cressida doesn't have the badge to back it up, nor the Datsun.

Sadly I think this looks more interesting than the actual XTS

lower the decklid so that it doesn't look so much like a parody, and give it vertical taillights to conform to their design theme, and I'd say they have something that would turn heads in a good way.

Nice retro bustle back touch on this Cadillac design! But the second generation Seville still looks better. That car might have been a POS, but it sure as hell looks gorgeous!

Yea, a cross between this and the IMAJ should have been Caddy's flagship

I know, it's like what you'd get if you asked greasy Italian mafiosos from the 70's, "what would a really cool car look like in the year 2000?"

To be fair, I think Vinsanity and Wimmer could pass off as Italian mafiosos...

I like the Audi, too, and the Max, Volvo, and Cress are kind of cool in their own category, but the Merc is a solid step above those, and the Bimmer is a whole staircase over that.

The Audi is nice and the Datsun is too, but the Merc and the BMW blow them away.  I love those old 80s Mercs, but with my current garage, I feel the need to be BMW biased.  Plus, manual in the BMW seals the deal, minus the bias.

That pic of the Benz + Bimmer are a lil unfair though. They really looked more like this

I am pretty sure that pic dude posted is an M5

Still though the MB & Bimmer are my first two picks by a landslide.
