This takes a very different approach than the Tokamak or Wendelstein stellerator.

This lab is situated in Redmond, just a few miles away...
Cool. Another new Silicon Valley style "fusion energy" thing that isn't doing anything for anybody.
If it was useful, it wouldn't be some "secret" amazing solution.
I saw that video last night. I like how it will supposedly generate power directly from the reaction instead of just running a steam powered generator.
I'm curious how it compares to the reactor that just made net power. I guess we'll have to wait until 2024 (or later...) to see.

It's secret because the R&D costs a fucking mint. If it pans out they don't want to have the first mover advantage stolen from them.
That guy's from Michigan BTW, graduated from UMich.

I remember that place. Bunch of engineers that have never held a power tool in their life.

You're right. I was just being salty. Any progress is good progress. There wouldn't be funding behind it if it wasn't worthwhile...that shit ain't cheap.
I used to do CAD drawings for a Ken Oldham (can Google him) in my first two years there. Did MEMS shit when I was there. Modified his designs micro by micrometer and would forward them to him for production. I was just the CAD lackey, but I felt important in the meetings.
Have added this to my watch list. Thanks.
On fusion... I listened to a three-hour 😳 interview Denis Whyte gave to Lex Fridman. Whyte is engaging & takes you through the basics, history, challenges etc. I learned a lot, highly recommended - if you can make the time.
