Somewhere in Sweden I can hear a hysterical HOW DARE YOU!

Low-Mileage 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Ticks The Right Boxes For Muscle Car Lovers

A particularly well-kept 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is heading to auction next month and could be the perfect car for anyone that loves classic American muscle.

As a 1978 model, this Pontiac Firebird Trans Am has the slanted front nose facelift that was introduced in 1977 and is powered by a 400 cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 with a four-barrel Rochester Quadrajet carburetor that delivers 220 hp and 325 lb-ft (441 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels courtesy of a four-speed manual transmission.

This Firebird will be sold by Mecum Auctions and the listing notes that it has only ever been driven 9,800 miles (~15,700 km) and is one of the 4,112 examples that were produced in 1978. It is also equipped with the WS6 special performance package and sits on 15×8-inch Snowflake wheels.

Elsewhere, the hood includes the famous firebird on the hood while there is also a large Trans Am sticker on the tailgate. The listing notes that all exterior parts are original, except for the Croker tires that were fitted last year.

The interior is clad in bright red materials across the seats, dashboard, center console, door panels, carpets, and headliner. A red interior can be a nightmare to maintain and keep clean but the owner appears to have done a very good job of maintaining it and making it look like it just rolled out of the factory.

The interior should be tan/gold or black. Otherwise this is properly peak Trans Am.  :vapors:

I love the red interior. Makes me think the previous owner was a pimp.

The main problem with the red interior was the Bandit didn't have a red interior.

A coworker bought a 1978 White T/A with tan interior. I was jealous, but even at 21 I tended to be practical in car buying. (I had recently passed up a pristine 69 R/S Camaro triple-white convertible for the 1974 Honda Civic sitting beside it at Wheels n'Deals in Millbrae. $2500 for the Camaro; 1800 for the Honda...I did love that Honda).

But this year model is the last good looking Trans Am produced. Except for my Maui Blue 1988 Trans Am.

This and the white ones are the very best looking of the muscle car era (to me).

There is no way I would've had that much self control at 21!

Only because Big Enos didn't give Bandit enough cash to upgrade to the red interior.

I've grown to really hate the Trans Am bird logo on the hood. Over time, I've come to prefer the cleaner look of contemporary Camaros. But that is a clean car, it's pretty sweet.

It's impossible to argue with Raza. He wins. Period. End of discussion.

On mine I was thankful that the Maui Blue version of the T/A featured a silver bird that almost blended in with the rest of the paint.

That's not too bad then. Whenever I'm watching old TV shows and see a Trans Am, it's almost always got that loud, gold bird on the hood. Awful.

There was a new Camaro in my neighborhood with the screaming chicken graphic on the hood.  Black graphics on a yellow car.

Maybe he just loves chickens?

Or saving up for one of those Trans Am conversion body kits for newer Camaros and did the bird graphics first.

That's commitment, even if it's a little overly ambitious.  It's kind of like getting a girl's name tattooed on your ass before you ask her out.
