Title: Viktor Yanukovych's car collection
Post by: Mustangfan2003 on February 24, 2014, 05:49:28 PM
These old Soviet cars look like direct copies of American cars.  Can't the commies do anything original?

Many Volgas were designed under the direction of Ford engineers, sometimes with old Ford tooling.

Didn't they buy all the old Packard tooling to build cars as well?

Yep: and also a good portion of captured machinery from BMW and Mercedes found its way into Russian factories for many years.

I believe Packard had some sort of licensing deal with the Soviets back in the day. Either that, or the Soviets just "cloned" them. The latter is more likely.

And the Ural motorcycles.  I believe they did have some sort of agreement to build them before the war though.
