Brakes that get less grippy in the rain are a good thing.  Sort of like a primitive form of ABS.  The tires have less grip, so you don't want your brakes to be as grabby or you'll lock up the tires and crash.

Nissan's NA operation down to 1-2% profit margin:

No mention of Infiniti (???) but I imagine that's included, which is nuts. Every Nissan branded vehicle must be selling at a significant loss

Again 15-17M SAAR is ridiculous; Nissan could probably return to profitability if it sold half as many cars at profitable prices. You could replace "Nissan" with several other brands

Maybe they would make more profit if they put fucking rod bearings in their engines. Fucking idiots.

Mercedes-Benz Is Readying Heated Seat Belts – And Not Just For Comfort

Heaps of cars nowadays come with heated seats and heated steering wheels, but Mercedes-Benz is going one step further in developing heated seat belts. Yes, seat belts.

Alongside the announcement of its Experimental Safety Vehicle demonstrator, the German automaker said its next target is heated seat belts. We imagine using one could be much like receiving a warm hug, but the German car manufacturer isn't doing this exclusively for comfort, but safety as well.

Only around 85 per cent of front- and rear-seat occupants in cars across the United States use seat belts, and in countries such as China, that percentage is much lower. Mercedes-Benz believes that heated seat belts could help encourage those who don't like wearing them to actually strap in before they go on their next drive.

The heated seat belts have numerous tube elements running through them. Car and Driver reports that they aren't noticeably thicker than a regular seat belt and that they do indeed heat up very effectively.

Mercedes-Benz hasn't disclosed when this feature might become available on a production model, but we guess it should be sooner than later in one of their top models, like the S-Class.

The ESV concept is outfitted with a handful of other intriguing safety components, including a small robot which emerges from the tailgate and positions itself at the roadside as a warning triangle. It is also fully autonomous and features a retractable steering wheel and pedals.

They like Jaguar's powertrain more than Tesla's? Interesting...haven't heard much about the I-Pace on the market. No idea if it is doing well or poorly.

Mercedes is running out of things to put in their cars that will fail the moment the warranty runs out.

Next up, fusible link steering column that will *only break* in a collision.

For me the current Mazda 6 works both as a sedan and a wagon. It's just that the wagon is more practical and looks better.

I won't lie, I wanna try these heated seatbelts for the fun of it, but from my POV they are not necessary. In my car I simply turn on the heated seats and the heater and that's all I need to stay warm in the winter. Heated seatbelts won't really make a difference, so I think.

It's either a bad angle or that thing is grossly disproportionate.  Too much metal hanging over the rear end.

That is horrendous.

Well, those are numbers for the N-line w/ a manual transmission. The base GT has the 2.0T, and the N-line with the DCT are both slightly higher (25/32), though those are still pretty bad.

The Civic Si makes 28/38 with a manual transmission (only option ) and almost identical power/torque ratings as the N-line.
