Title: Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE sound
Post by: Laconian on August 14, 2019, 10:16:27 PM
If your Benz thinks you're going to eat it, it plays a sound through the speakers which cause your ear canal to essentially brace itself and prepare for a loud crunch.

Clever!

That's pretty cool.  Didn't realize loss of hearing after a vehicle crash was a thing though.

I guess passengers will no longer have to scream in order to produce this sound effect.

You have much bigger things to worry about in an accident. Any loud noise, especially for an extended period, can cause permanent hearing damage, but unless you're getting into car accidents all the time, this is more of a "comfort" thing than something that'll prevent noticeable hearing loss.

However, unexpected loud noises can be very jarring...think of when lightning strikes close by. It's shocking, and can make your ears ring. Ears ringing is a sign of potential damage, even if slight.
