2020 Toyota GranAce Luxury MPV Revealed Ahead Of Tokyo Motor Show

After launching the Granvia and Lexus LM, Toyota has dropped the veil off yet another MPV, the GranAce.

Toyota's new minivan is aimed at the Japanese market, where it will launch after its 2019 Tokyo Motor Show public debut on October 24. The 2020 GranAce takes its name from the Spanish 'gran', which means 'big' or 'great', and the English word 'ace'.

Measuring 5,300 mm (208.7 in) long, 1,970 mm (77.6 in) wide and 1,990 mm (78.3 in) tall, the GranAce is 35 mm (1.4 in) longer and 20 mm (0.8 in) wider than the HiAce, on which it's based, sharing the same height and wheelbase length of 3,210 mm (126.4 in). It does set itself apart with a more distinctive look, which is highlighted by the new LED DRLs, larger grille, reworked bumper and more distinctive lighting signature.

On the inside, Toyota has kept the same layout, albeit enhancing it with more premium materials. Thus, the new GranAce gets leather seats, wood and aluminum trim, a larger infotainment screen and different HVAC controls.

The new Toyota minivan will come in two different versions, offering seating for six on three rows, or for eight on four rows, promising to cocoon occupants with excellent soundproofing, while also making nighttime journeys more pleasant with the LED side color cabin illumination.

For power, the Japanese car maker has chosen the 2.8-liter 1GD diesel engine, connected to a six-speed automatic transmission. Specs are yet to be released, but the unit is available in three outputs with the HiAce; 156 and 163 PS (154-161 hp / 115-120 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque, and 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque.

The GranAce packs the latest version of Toyota Safety Sense bundle of safety systems.

Do they make it in brown?

I know you were joking, but this got me thinking: it may actually look better in brown than in black. Colors are powerful!
