So badass.

2020 Mercedes-AMG A45S: A Muscle Car Disguised As A Hatchback

The Mercedes-AMG A45 S can get from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in almost the same time you need to say its full name.

It's the fastest and the most powerful of hot hatches , with its 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder pumping out a stunning 421 PS (415 hp / 310 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque.

Ford's Mustang EcoBoost has 100 hp less and cannot dream of hitting the 100 km/h (62 mph) mark in 3.9 seconds. In fact, the A45 S has turned out to be quicker at the Hockenheim GP track than the V8-powered Mustang GT, as well as the old CLK 63 Black Series and BMW M3 E90, and almost as fast as the old Audi R8 V8.

Hitting the official 270 km/h (168 mph) top speed is a walk in the park, too, as proved by the following video, which sees the A45 S going flat out on a no-speed-limit section of a German Autobahn. The result was recorded on a third party device, and by the time the driver lifted the right foot off the throttle, the digital needle was sitting at 278 km/h (173 mph).

You may want to double check those finances if the A45 S is on your shopping list, because it's one expensive car. In Germany, it starts at €66,283 ($73,997), while in the UK, you will have to spend a minimum of £50,570 ($65,402).

What does a Mustang cost in Germany?

There are only three models offered on sale here from Ford Germany. Here are their prices.

You can also get more hardcore models of the Mustang from specialized importers like Geiger Cars]/i]: https://geigercars.de/us-cars/ford/mustang/

Here for example - with prices.

At 1.5x the price, I'd certainly hope it's faster than a Mustang GT.

I would not compare this to a Mustang, even though the articles does. Two different types of cars for two different types of performance/car enthusiasts.

$73k for A45

Yep, expensive. But I will tell you - from experience (obviously) - that the new A-Class is worth the higher asking prices. The first two generations were competent but dull. The third generation became stylish but lacked a premium feel and innovation. The current version has it all: innovation, technology, style, performance and even drives well in basic FWD trim. I don't find myself missing the way my ex-RWD BMW drove, and that's saying a lot about what MB managed to engineer here with the new A-Class.

The A45S is the top-of-the-line model with all the toys and some hardcore performance - definitely worth the price to a potential buyer.  :ohyeah:

Also, us Europeans have to contend with smaller garage and parking spaces. I could have bought a base C-Class Wagon with the money I paid for my A250, but it would not have fit into my parking space. Plus, the C-Class does not have MBUX and the amazing technology found in the new A-Class (even the S-Class does not have this...), so essentially I got a better deal on my A250 than I would have with a C180 or C200.

You Don't Know How Brutal Mercedes-AMG's A45 S Is Until You've Experienced It

All petrol heads love a properly balanced hot hatchback, but choosing one in today's market might be tricky. You have everything from the ultra-popular front-wheel drive VW Golf GTI, to the Renault Megane RS, Honda Civic Type R and newcomer of the bunch, Hyundai's i30 N.

Kicking it up a notch will get you an all-wheel drive model, like the new BMW M135i, Mercedes-AMG A35, Audi RS3 Sportback or Volkswagen Golf R. But what if you want the most powerful of them all? Well, then you'll have to fork out a small fortune for the Mercedes-AMG A45 S, which continues to impress reviewers with its whopping power squeezed out of a small four-pot.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=43wysg9IK1o

The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine has been tuned to deliver a stunning 421 PS (415 hp / 310 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, directed to the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system via an 8-speed automatic transmission. The zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint is truly impressive, needing only 3.9 seconds, which is quicker than some of yesterday's supercars, while flat out, the mega hatchback can do 270 km/h (168 mph).

All this comes at a price, though; namely, €61,820 ($68,476) in Germany and £50,570 ($64,839) in the United Kingdom. So, is it worth spending that much on what is, in essence, a compact hatchback, albeit an immensely powerful and capable one? If the previous video reviews did not help you make up your mind, then perhaps this POV drive will. After all, what's not to like about experiencing it on B-roads from the comfort of your home/office?
