ok...this has been goin on for a couple months now and i just now finally got around to posting it...
A black ring of grease keeps appering between the lug cover and the wheel itself within a couple of weeks after being cleaned...it is attracting brake dust better than anything i've seen
i'm not entirely sure what is causeing it...but it is extremly ugly and makes the already boring stock rims look awlfull...any ideas...quick remidies...
*its a '97 chevy 1500 ...

Hubs are leaking oil.
It's a 4x4 right?
Definitely the hubs; I don't know if you have city buses where you live, but in Seattle I occasionally see a bus that looks like its inward-flipped rear or middle wheel has been taking an oil piss all over itself. Same deal.

no its 2 wheel drive...
is there a way i can fix it or should i just send it to my mechanic eventually
Bad axle seals or you're leaking brake fluid somewhere. If it is the front wheel, then those are simple. Regardless if it uses repackable bearings or sealed hubs you should be able to fix either in under an hour if it is your first time tacking such a task. Get a GOOD manual, not the crappy Haynes ones although they would suffice for something like this, sit down and figure out what you'll need to do it yourself and put aside a couple of hours one afternoon to fix it. You'll probably save yourself a decent amount of money and have the satisfaction of having done it yourself.
