Certainly possible. It's a car, and cars can be made fast.

(As opposed to a truck). ;)

I did pretty bad:

http://srrscca.com/SCCAEventResults/October%2016th,%202010/20101016_fin.htm

But as a small defense, I was running on who knows how old 420 treadwear all seasons.  Made it a TON of fun, but as you can see, I wasn't very fast.

I put winter tires on the Miata today.  The steering used to feel like I was holding a tie rod in each hand.   Turning the steering wheel now feels like I'm submitting a request to the government to turn the front wheels.  Delayed reaction x 10

They don't equalize the novice class with the PAX system in that region?  I placed in trophy payout position in both of my entries this year in the Novice class, but I wouldn't have placed that high were it not for the PAX adjustment.  Definitely a benefit of a slow, H-Stock class car.

Although next year I think I'll run the Mustang.  Very little competition in its class in this region.  In fact, had I run it at the two events I entered this year and skipped the novice class, I would have been class champion.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

What's a good strut tower brace for a '00?

The factory brace for the NB is about as robust as you can get.  And it's engineered to fit.  I acquired one for $80 and installed it in my 95 M-Edition.    It may make a slight difference, hard to tell really.

We have a study not far from there. Keep going over the dam, and then up towards Prairie, and you'll drive through the study area. It's just as you start climbing away from the SF Boise River and up to the top of the basalt cliffs.

We're all just too tall.

I'm just a hair under 6' and I fit fine.  In fact my wife and I just completed an 1100 mile road trip last weekend.  We drove from Houston to Arkansas to winterize the house up there.  Drove up all 500 miles non stop (except to eat and gas up) with the top down all the way.  We found the car quite comfortable for long trips.  Got a bit chilly since we arrived at about 10:00 PM and it was in the 30's.  Driving back we put the top up for the last 400 miles because of the threat of rain.  On Arkansas Scenic Highway 7 between Russellville and Hot springs I tried to double the suggested speeds on curves and switchbacks.  I was largely successful.

Rupert

I'm 6'2", with long legs. It cracks me up when someone insists that I fit in a car comfortably when I used to own it and know that I don't. ;)

Did you not get wind burn and dry as skin from that? Perhaps it because my head will go over the window bar that keeps me from driving with the top down for drives that long?

No wind burn.  I have a wind deflector I made and at highway speeds we had the side windows up as well.  Plus we wore our ball caps to keep out hair from blowing all over.

Don't like the rims. However, I do like the fact that the rocker is red and not black. I was thinking about doing that when I paint it again but then again I've got black front and rear effects on the bottom of my bumpers. So I'm not sure how it would look.

Rupert

I never got why the rockers on Miatas were black.

I'm thinking about not only going red but not putting the rock guard stuff from the body line down back on.

Love that MX-5 Spyder. They should all come with that ride height stock from the factory.

Watching this with eager eyes.  No real big news here, but it's nice to see progress.

QuoteFans of simple, lightweight motoring, rejoice - we now have images of the next-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata undergoing testing at der Nürburgring Nordschleife. Now, to be fair, this isn't some lightly camouflaged example that will give us a great peak of what the next Miata, which will also become the next Alfa Romeo Spider, will look like. This is a mule, with the new bits hidden under a current Miata's body. That doesn't mean there aren't a few scraps of valuable information here, though.

According to our flock of camera-toting spies at the Nürburgring, the next Miata is likely to grow a bit, as new models are wont to do. In particular, it will be longer and wider, and the wheelbase is likely going to be stretched, based on the shape of the wheel wells and doors. Both of those factors will add more space in the cabin.

Those are the big indications provided by these photos, but while the MX-5 might be growing, it's a safe bet based on these images that it, and the (likely pricier) Alfa, will retain the classic, long-hood, short-deck styling that so typifies rear-drive roadsters.

With testing still in the earliest of stages, it's not clear when the MX-5 will arrive on the market, as Mazda has kept that intel locked up as tight as possible. As always, as soon as more info is available, you'll be able to read it here.

I'm also going to try for some rust removal, and reupholstering the seats.  Bought a steering wheel, shifter, and e-brake lever wrap from Redline that I'll have put on at the same time.  Maybe a new cloth top.  A few minor things to take care of too.  Should take the car to 200,000 miles and then some of these new fangled miatas should be showing up on the used car lots and I should be in the states by then (2018 or so).
