Early photo of the donor.

02 special edition. Going to take the motor, 6 speed transmission, torsen diff, and some other bits off.

I'll take some more this weekend when I start some teardown.

Not a dbr1, but that is pretty sweet kit. Really sweet.

Much disappointment.

I'm sorry, I hope someday you forgive me.

FlatBlackCaddy

Apparently I'm not doing any of the good ones, so I'll just settle for my lowly lotus-esque stalker kit car.

FlatBlackCaddy

I'll update the first post with all the donor car info, and the next few with the kit unboxing and pieces, etc. I'll document the teardown, building of and turboing of the miata motor.

Less disappointment.

I bought the donor car for 500 dollars. So that leave plenty of room for rods, pistons, some other engine work(all new seals, studs, headgasket) and what not. Going to probably just get a bare bones FM kit and run a megasquirt.

Simple target, using nice round numbers is 350HP(crank) and 1500lb curb weight. Should be fun.

:golfclap:

I approve.  Which kit are you using?

I haven't decided on color yet, maybe pewter/light goldish frame and pearl blue for the panels.

Motherfucker.

Now I'm looking (again) at the GBS Zero kit, and Miata donors. Also researching if the Stalker kit is a better kit/deal.

I think this is how I want to do it...

You have no concept of my internal battles. I'm getting a fat VA cheque sometime in the early fall, and my short list is thus:
a) Fiat Spider $35,000
b) FFR Cobra winter build $35,000
c) Used Boxster S $35,000
d) Lotus 7 winter build $25,000

You got me leaning towards option D now. After all, the idea is a cool toy, and I've always wanted to build a car.

FlatBlackCaddy

Got the donor home. 2002 Miata SE. 90k, 6 speed transmission and the stock torsen diff. Good donor. Added pics to the first post.

Is this done yet?  I'm bored with this thread.

That's some Pontiac-grade body cladding.

So the engine/mounts weren't damaged in the crash? Looks like the radiator got shoved pretty close to the block.

It was switched pretty good, a bit harder than I thought. As of now it looks like everything is fine. It runs and drives with no interference or issues.

FlatBlackCaddy

Here's a good image to show how far that rail made it. Have all the upper and lower cut away, and a partial cut on the rail. But you can see the front of that rail is inline with the center of the motor. Still, it starts and runs with no interference.

Once I get that rail chunk out I'll have the cooler out of the way and I can see if anything is damage, but I'm pretty sure it's all fine.

FlatBlackCaddy

As for the cladding, it's the SE so it got the appearance package. My 99 10th anniversary has a similar(albeit toned down) kit. Didn't like it at first, but with some new (wider) rims and a bit of a drop.

Pretty tough to say anything bad about it.
