Audi's Working On A Stunning Four-Door Electric Coupe The Size Of An A4

Audi is planning to launch 20 electric vehicles by 2025 and it appears one of them will be a stylish four-door coupe that is roughly the same size as the A4.

According to Autocar, the model will be pretty bold as designer Parys Cybulski told them the brief was simply to make a "statement." That's pretty vague, but the publication says it will incorporate styling cues from the A7 Sportback and E-tron GT. Considering those are some of the company's best looking models, the car sounds pretty promising.

The model could arrive in 2023 and it's tipped to be the first Audi vehicle to ride on the PPE platform that is being developed with Porsche. The company hasn't said much about the architecture, but the publication says it will be highly flexible as it can accommodate different sized battery packs and underpin everything from cars to crossovers.

The PPE architecture has reportedly been designed around a rear electric motor, but the platform can also be equipped with a front electric motor to give vehicles added performance and all-wheel drive. That setup is similar to the MEB platform, but vehicles based on the PPE architecture will reportedly be offered with more advanced features such as all-wheel steering and torque vectoring.

Performance specifications are a mystery, but one of the battery packs could enable a PPE-based vehicle to have a range in excess of 300 miles (483 km). The platform is also slated to have an 800V electrical architecture that can support a charging capability of 350 kW.

That's pretty noteworthy as the Porsche Taycan has a peak charging rate of 270 kW. Even with that lower rating, the Taycan's battery pack can go from a 5% to 80% charge in just 22.5 minutes.

The PPE platform is interesting because it is meant to be slung low to the ground. In order to make the battery pack pass crash tests the need to make the vehicles wide. Low and wide could lead to yummy designs.
