Title: New Grand Cherokee

I'm completely underwhelmed.  After all these years of development they stuck existing aging powertrains and identical 4x4 systems into a wonderful Alfa Giulia/Stelvio chassis and then really didn't move the bar at all on styling or performance.

10 years ago the pentastar was supposed to get DI.  It still hasn't.  They supposedly have been working on a new I6 that was to be unveiled - it didn't happen.  Hybrid - nope.

It looks like they used all this time and only managed to make a durango sized grand cherokee.  Sad...

Looks good and with a nice interior, but yeah, nothing special.

Maybe they shouldn't have blown so much money into figuring out ways to cram the Hellcat engine into everything they make.

FCA development is just so sad these days.

"Let's launch with a three-row! No one else is doing that!"
"Great idea. We've been stuck in this near-unique mid-size 2-row niche for too long."

This vehicle will be a huge success. For families with young kids, the 3rd row makes the vehicle so much more versatile for things like carpooling. Unlike 30 years ago, every kid needs their own seat with seatbelt.

This vehicle has good pricing (starts at just under 40 grand), beautiful interior, Jeep name, "trail rated" capability, and decent proportions with classic Jeep grill.

See right now what happens is Mom and Dad have two rugrats in elementary school and accidentally  have another one due soon.  And neither want a minivan.  They'd love a Grand Cherokee but with three kids and a soccer carpooling future, they're going to need three rows.  So currently they're choosing between the Ford Explorer and the Kia Telluride.  This Jeep hits all the boxes for them.  It's Trail-Rated for Dad and Mom to gloat about, it's beautiful inside, and it doesn't break the bank.  A Chevy Tahoe starts at 10 grand more expensive.

Lexus screwed up with their 3 row RX experiment. Jeep looks to not have.  Yeah engines are ancient.  How many buyers in this segment care?

Dodge Durango?  Isn't the upcoming Wagoner 3-row?

The Grand Wagoneer is 3-row but it will be a size up from the Durango, Explorer and Telluride. It will compete against the Tahoe/Suburban and Expedition.

I do think this will sell well, even if it looks low-effort on FCA's part.

Wagoner 3 row is much more expensive (like 20 grand more).

Lots of people want Jeeps. Fewer people (significantly so) want a Dodge.  Jeep appeals to a much wider demographic than Dodge.  Jeep has a lot of brand cache.
