Driving The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S In The Wet Looks Like An Absolute Ball

Looks can be deceiving and while to some the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S may seem like nothing more than a sleek four-door sedan, this video shows it can be an absolute blast to drive on a rain-soaked circuit.

One of the best features of the GT 63 S is that its all-wheel drive system can be switched into rear-wheel drive only mode, allowing drivers to kick out the tail and send the super sedan sideways like some of the finest AMG products produced in recent decades.

During a recent test of the car, Motorsport Magazine driver Nicolas Gourdol hit the Magny-Cours GP circuit in France in rear-wheel drive mode with the ESC disabled and set about performing some incredible slides in the car, spinning up the tires at every opportunity and expertly holding the slides through many of the circuit's long, sweeping corners. Around one particular right-hander, a slide is held for more than 11-seconds.

Motorsport Magazine later tested the GT 63 S around the same circuit when conditions had dried up and recorded a best lap time of 1:56.49. That puts it ahead of vehicles like the Porsche 718 Cayman S, BMW M3 Competition, Cadillac CTS-V, Jaguar F-Type SVR, and Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe.

Making the car so fast is its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine churning out 630 hp and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. When the car is operating with its all-wheel drive system enabled, it can accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in roughly 3.2 seconds.
