The hatchback C5 is the Khloe to the Kourtney C6

Notchback isn't pretty but it's its own thing. I'd love to see a notchback C6

An AutoX friend of mine got the notchback for autoX reasons.  I sat in it.  Interior is so trash I could never own the thing.  It's bad.

FRC is the lightest of the C5s however

But it comes at the expense of being a fixed roof coupe and an ass the size of Montana.

For its time, it was so fast, you didn't really bother looking at the interior.

For now, it's still damn fast.

Lighter and, IIRC, greater chassis rigidity than the Targa/liftback.

I can't be the only one who finds the FRC more attractive... the targa looks so tacky. A C5 FRC = you are serious about driving

I've always had a soft spot for the C5's, especially the ones in blue. If they were smaller I would have snapped one up in a heartbeat.

That is hot af.

I think C5s are my favorites.  Maybe C6.  I dunno.  Of the modern 'Vettes, anyway.

I also find the FRC MUCH MUCH more attractive than the coupe, I just love how compact the greenhouse is.

This one isn't mine, but it's in electron blue and tastefully modified. If I wasn't worried about scraping everywhere

The coupe body style sucks.

It doesn't look half bad from that angle.

Yes and it isn't just a little more rigid.  It is ALOT more rigid. The difference is beyond what one would expect for a targa vs hardtop difference(hardtop Supra vs Targa Supra, or hard top NSX vs targa NSX). This is because not only does the C5 Z06 benefit from a welded on roof ,  it also has a significantly smaller rear glass, and as it is technically built off the convertible rear structure, it also benefits from having the Convertible's rear bracing.

Car and Driver once had all the C5's together for a handling test.

https://www.caranddriver.com/features/suspensions-of-disbelief-feature

Since it's such an older article on the website, somehow I can't find more than the first page.  It is transcribed on the corvette forums however.

http://www.c5forum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=55857

When all the Corvettes were in one place and could be compared directly, the results are striking.

For the base car:
"Although we have always been generally impressed with the base Corvette's ride quality, under hard scrutiny on these roads we all agreed that basic body-motion control was lacking. It's not hard to use up all of the suspension's travel, and bumps in turns occasionally cause the car to take an unanticipated step to the side. Such events are often accompanied by intervention from the active-handling stability-control system, which gets its biggest workout in the base car. Pocks and rippled pavement send unwelcome wiggles and jiggles up through the steering wheel and structure, making us wonder how serenely the Z06's more rigid body would ride with this suspension. "

For the Magnetic shock model:
"MSRC provides all the comfort of the base suspension in tour mode, but since the shocks can tighten up near the limits of travel, the suspension seldom hits its bump stops. Some of the base car's steering-wheel and chassis judders are still present"

For the Z51:
"This suspension also transmits a lot more noise to the cabin, and there is a tendency toward minor bump steer under some circumstances."

Finally for the Z06:
"If the three targas are apples, the Z06 is a kumquat—a go-kart among grand tourers. Its steering response is so much quicker it's hard to believe the ratio is the same. Its weight is within 141 pounds of the others, yet it feels like hundreds less. Its structure also feels twice as rigid. Yes, it filters out less road noise and harshness, but at least each bump is felt just once, with far less reverberation than in the other cars."

I knew I wasn't crazy for liking the FRC.

Regarding this thread, God forbid I have to replace this car any time soon, but I think I could live with a Camry or Optima Hybrid. Preferably the Optima
