Title: Citroen Dyane or Renault R4
Post by: cawimmer430 on January 15, 2013, 06:25:54 PM
I thought it would interesting to have these two have a go at each other.

The Citroen Dyane was a more "upscale" version of the legendary 2CV.

The Renault 4 replaced the 4CV and is a legendary car in Europe and elsewhere because of its amazing interior space layout and folding rear seats etc. The 4 made quite an impact and was still in production and sale in the early 1990s!

Between these two I'd go with the Renault. It's a respectable car and at classic car shows here many former owners speak fondly and full of passion of it. The Dyane lacks the visual charm of the 2CV IMO.

I think that's the Renault my dad's family had in Colombia. Does it has a crazy shifter in the dash?

Yep. It was known as "Revolver-Schaltung" in Germany. English translation = "Revolver-Gear-Change".

Yeah I think that's it. He said the handle twists instead of the usual "push to the side" motion of normal shifters.

Yep. Only the French could come up with that.

I'll take the Quatr'elle, too.

They were always far more popular in the UK than the "Deauche" when new, but these days there is far more of a cult following for the Citroen.

I went to the UK's 50th anniversary gathering of the R4 in 2011 - report  here  (http://themotor.net/?p=395)
