There's A Manual E39 BMW 540i With Just 5.5k Miles For Sale

A super low-mileage 1998 BMW 540i outfitted with the sought after six-speed manual transmission in Bellevue, Washington with a $26,950 asking price.

The BMW 5-Series has long been one of the German marque's quint-essential cars and it is perhaps the E39-generation model that sports the most timeless design. In fact, while this car is 22 years old, it still has quite a lot of appeal to it thanks to the simple and uncomplicated design that has aged very gracefully.

While the 540i is no M5 of the day, it came close enough for most drivers as it was the next most powerful 5-Series variant sporting a naturally-aspirated 4.4-liter V8 engine that produced 282 hp back in the day. While that's 112 hp less than the E39 M5, it's still a respectable amount of power to be sent through the rear wheels via a six-speed stick shift. At the time, C&D quoted a 5.4 second run for the 0-60 mph (96 km/h) for the manual model, which even today, sounds fast enough to be enjoyable.

The listing reveals that this is a Canadian-spec car that was sold new at Adelaide Motors in Toronto back in early 1998. The most recent owner purchased and imported it into the United States in November 2019 and it currently has 5,583 miles (8,986 km) under its belt.

Despite the vehicle's age, it comes complete with a number of luxurious features that could fool you into thinking it is much newer than it actually is. For example, there are 12-way power-adjustable bucket seats with 3 memory settings for the driver, an auto-dimming rear mirror, a 10-speaker audio system, automatic dual-zone climate control, and cruise control. It also gets the sports package.

If it caught your attention, this beautiful example of BMW's lauded E39 series is available for sale from Park Place LTD

Doesn't seem hard to make one. Just put a modern phone inside and wire the brick phone receiver with a 3.5mm jack?

A few years ago, some dude was building them to do so; but they were actually a kind of peripheral, where you plug in your new phone and it gives functionality to the old phone.

I can't seem to find that now.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?
