Eye of the Tiger

I've been working on this little side project ...

A friend of mine bought as a roller, and paid a supposed VW expert to put a motor in it.
Well, the guy was a hack. It barely ran.

After lots of carb tuning, a new distributor installed correctly, plugs & wires, and a rebuilt muffler, it runs pretty good. It is so strange to drive.

Is the cooling fan setup like a Beetle or is it a flat motor?

Had a rough start to a great camping trip over the weekend. 2.5 hours into a 3.5 hour drive the engine on my Suburban suddenly lost power while climbing to an 8300 foot summit. I cooled it off, dropped the camper trailer on the side of the road and limped it into the next town with a loud rod knock. We ended up renting a Uhaul to tow the trailer. That Suburban served us well for 12 years (it's a '99) but now it is off to its final rusting place.

Yep, a 454. If you want to tow it 2000 miles I'll make you a good deal on it, if you can pick it up before the salvage yard fixes their tow truck.

That's how I felt broken down on the side of the road 2 hours from home trying to figure out how to move a 7000 pound trailer.

Reminds me of when my El Camino's engine dropped a valve halfway between Green River and Moab. 40 mile tow = $$$ (AAA only covered like 10 miles), then I had to rent a Uhaul and trailer to tow the dumb thing all the way back to Kentucky.

Why are wipers so expensive? Mid-grade for 2 turns out to be $44.

Wipers are a scam. What happened to the $2 rubber refills? They disappeared from stores. And then wiper prices went up to $15-30 each.

Buy your wipers on Rock Auto, but order several pairs so the shipping is worth it.

Lady comes in with a Buick Century. Has already purchased a thermostat and requests that we install it.

Fast forward two months.

Same lady comes in for CEL. Code is for coolant temp below threshold. We find out the thermostat that she bought was a high flow, and cooler temp than factory.

Lady demands that we replace it under warranty.
No, we don't provide any warranty on customer-supplied parts.

But since I can't stand this shit, I just order the correct thetmostat and install it. While I was in there, I noticed the coolant was very low, and the rad hose had a visible hole rotted through it.

Lady flips out, refuses to pay for anything, and demands her car back.

Fuck that bitch. I didn't even top it off with water. Her car was nasty anyway.
