Title: Cleaning Floor Mats
Post by: Raza on September 28, 2005, 09:26:37 AM
Yeah, so my girlfriend and I were fooling around in the backseat of the Passat and we made some, umm..."love stains" in the floor mat back there...

Okay, I had a bottle of shampoo burst on the rear passenger side floor and it soaked in the carpet.  How do I clean this thing?  Just throw it in the washing machine?

Hose it off real well, the shampoo will act as a detergent and clean it at the same time, and then you have some Fructis smelling floor mats.

Yup.  I'm assuming the shampoo is still soaking?  Or has it dried into the carpet?  I would get it wet, put a liberal amount of shapoo on the stains, scrub hard, and hose it.

The shampoo is dry, and probably really well baked thanks to the 100 degree days in the summer.

Prestone works really good.  It's has an attached scrubber and comes in a red bottle.  You can get it at places like Walmart or auto parts stores.

Soapy water works great on cleaning the carpet in your car...I've done it several times...You just gotta make sure that you get the soap out and let the interior dry really well, works good on most stains

I'm assuming this is a floor mat so...
1. Remove mat
2. Hook up garden hose
3. Blast the crap out of the mat
4. Let dry for a couple hours (shade or sun doesnt matter much i would hang it somewhere)
5. Insert mat and enjoy a job well done B)

*dont ask me why i put it in a list,

No, I haven't.  My weekend kind of got hijacked by food poisoning.  But it's a plan for next weekend, surely.  I'll be using your method, Foot o'lead.

Lather, rinse-repeat.
